Welcome Letter from PFA President

My name is Morgan LaRue and I am pleased to be the PFA President for the second year in a row. I am the mother of two boys (1st and 3rd grade). This is our fifth year at LJA and we are looking forward to yet another wonderful year.

The PFA meets monthly to plan the fun activities we do throughout the year. We have three (3) General Meetings that are open to all families (September, December, and May). We have great attendance and are always happy to see many new parents! We encourage anyone interested in the PFA or volunteering at the school to join us.

You have probably noticed that the PFA's web pages, along with the LJA website, are being redesigned. Our Communications Team is hard at work making it easier to use and even lovelier to look at! We plan to have all the resources you need here for easy access. You can also browse easy ways to support the PFA, including volunteer opportunities, Amazon Rewards, eScrip, and CPK Day!

We are very excited to bring the community so many fun activities this year, including a special nationally-recognized science show for our Lower School students, “Fun with Physics” by Professor Smart this fall. We are also pleased to share that the PFA donated more than $18,000 LJA's 2015-16 Annual Fund in support of building and maintaining a wonderful, enriching learning environment for our children.

Please do not hesitate to contact me at if you have any questions about who we are and what we do, or if you just want to be a part of the fun!

I look forward to a wonderful school year with our LJA ohana.

Morgan LaRue
PFA President

Bienvenue Au Jardin

The Admissions Office and the PFA jointly sponsor Bienvenue au Jardin (French for "Welcome to our Garden"), a program to welcome new LJA families into our ‘ohana. The purpose of this event is to give new families a sense of welcome into our school community. We pair a current family (the "Ambassador Family") with a new family. Ambassador Families are a liaison during the school year, answering questions and providing support during the new families' transitions to our school.

Ambassador Family Tasks
As part of this program, we ask current LJA families to let us know if they want to participate. Ambassador Families make a welcome phone call and/or email to an incoming family, giving them a friendly transition to their child’s new school. We match families as closely as possible by age and gender of students, making this a great opportunity to also make new friends. As an Ambassador Family, you will receive an email with your new family's contact information in mid to late July, along with some guidance on how to answer questions your new family may have. You will also receive an invitation to the festive Bienvenue au Jardin Welcome event, which is usually scheduled for early August in the Administration Building Courtyard on the main campus (LS/MS/HS), and at the Junior School Campus (JS families). Attending these parties is not required of an Ambassador Family, but they are a fun way to meet your new family in person.

It takes just a little bit of your time, is very rewarding, and makes a HUGE difference to those who are new to our LJA ‘ohana. If you are interested in volunteering as an Ambassador Family, or have questions about the program, please email us your name, email address and phone number.

Welcome Brunch

The Welcome Brunch is held at the beginning of the school year on Lower and Middle School "Meet The Teacher Day" in August. It is a great way for all parents in Junior School through High School, old and new, to grab a bite to eat and catch up with each other! PFA representatives are present to answer questions on volunteer opportunities.

Holiday Craft Fair

The Holiday Craft Fair is held annually in December on the Main Campus, often in conjunction with Lower School Winter Wonderland activities.

This year, the Holiday Craft Fair will be held Saturday, December 10, 9 am - 3 pm.

Family Fun Run

The LJA Family Fun Run is held annually on a Sunday in February, rain or shine! The event is FREE, but registration is mandatory. The course circles the Main Campus, beginning and ending on the soccer field. This event takes many volunteers to make it a success, and any help you can offer is appreciated!

Coffee/Pupus with the Principal

Coffee/Pupus with the Principals are casual gatherings where all principals discuss topics of interest to parents. Coffees are generally held at either 8:15 a.m. or 3:30 p.m. in various school locations, and there is usually one evening event per year.

Coffee dates and locations are listed on the school calendars.

Teacher Appreciation

A PFA team provides special treats for our LJA Faculty/Staff about once a month. This team also puts on the annual Teacher Appreciation luncheon in May and surprises our faculty with gifts during Teacher Appreciation Week.

Available jobs may include: organization of volunteers, making treats, helping with the annual luncheon, or helping with Teacher Appreciation Week.

Toys For Tots

The Parent Faculty Association has once again teamed up with the United States Marine Corps for Toys for Tots.

You can participate by donating a new and unwrapped toy for a child in need.

Toys will be collected November 7 - December 8, 2016.
