Principal's Message by Alex Ramsvig, HS Principal
Aloha All,
We have had a busy week at the High School with our Open House last Saturday and the Sophomore DP Parent night on Tuesday, both of which were well attended.
Our I-Term program for this year is drawing to a close. At a High School assembly on Monday February 3rd, students will present 5-minute reflections of their experiences. We have worked hard with students on developing their ability to tell a thematic story, rather than simply a chronological list of things that they did during I-Term. Many cohorts will be creating videos that will be made available to parents next week.
Our Winter sports season is drawing to a close, and so I encourage all families to get out and support the teams for their final few games. The Winter Sports Banquet will be at 5:30pm on Tuesday, February 25th in the Wang Auditorium.
As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Dean of Acadmic's Message by Lindsey Schiffler, HS Dean of Academics/DP Coordinator
Aloha parents, guardians, students, and community members:
Thanks to parents, students, faculty, and staff for attending Tuesday's DP Parent Night. I enjoyed meeting many of you and answering questions about the Diploma Programme. Next week, Mr. Ramsvig, Mr. Liedtke, and I will visit sophomore English classes to answer specific questions about DP course selection. In the meantime, please refer to the following resources that were created for a parent informational series on the DP. Click here for a presentation about transitioning from MYP to DP. DP information regarding colleges can be found here.
If you missed Tuesday night's event or want to review the presentation, click here. As always, please feel free to email me with any questions.
Mahalo! DP INFO NIGHT Tenth Grade DP Night was held this past Tuesday evening in the Wang Auditorium. This informational event was a time for parents and students to ask questions to different teachers and learn more about Diploma Programme courses at Le Jardin Academy!
I-Term Presentations 2020- February 3rd from 1:00-3:20pm IMPACT STORY PRESENTATIONS INFORMATION (Click link for more details!)
What is an impact story? This is a story about how you changed, how your group changed, and/or how you feel the world changed because of your experiences during Impact Term.
What is the difference between retelling my experience and telling an impact story? Retelling is often sequential and provides a summary of the highlights that occurred during an experience. When retelling, we are likely to utilize the montage approach, and we tend to throw in several inside jokes that only those who were part of the experience will understand. Retelling can be a very engaging reliving of the experience, like a photo album you scroll (or flip) through. This type of storytelling is wonderful for those who were on the trip, as it brings you back to the moments you loved. It is not our goal to simply retell or recap our experiences when creating impact stories.
Telling an impact story is more of a focused, themed approach. The goal of an impact story is to communicate a larger message or lesson, highlighting the learning and the impact of the experience. It can include retelling of specific aspects of the experience that support your overarching theme or message.
How do I create an impact story? There is no right way to create an impact story, and there is no perfect version of an impact story. Here are some prompts that you might find helpful:
End each interview with the question, "How will use this experience to positively impact the world?
