From the Office of Experiential Education by Christina Hoe, Associate Director of Experiential Learning, Global Citizen Diploma Coordinator Aloha Le Jardin Community,
Reminder: Please mark your calendars for an Impact Term parent conversation on Monday, March 16th, from 5:30-6:30pm in the Wang Auditorium. We will discuss the creation of our Fall Semester I-Term Catalog and the possible impact of COVID-19 on student travel. LJA Family's Deep Connection to Cambodia by Christina Hoe This January, a group of our high school students visited Cambodia for their Impact Term, returning with profound insights about privilege, peace, and gratitude. Their trip was inspired initially by Le Jardin parent, Matt Green's, connection to the Cambodian Children's Fund (CCF). CCF works directly with families living in the landfill in Phnom Penh, providing multi-faceted support through their school facilities and curriculum. As part of our Impact Program, the Le Jardin High School hopes to build a long-standing relationship with CCF, creating sustained engagement with a community that can help our students develop a deeper understanding of resilience, hope, and the true impact of intercultural exchange. We are so lucky to have the Greene's in our learning community; they are truly global citizens, committed to the wellbeing of all people on this planet. The Upcoming Annual Common Ground Summit by Aidan Anderson
The Wild Kids Stewardship Council presents: The 2020 Common Ground Summit (Protecting Wild Spaces in Global Communities)
April 3-5th 2020 at Le Jardin Academy 8th - 12th Grade Students Welcome
Every year, the Wild Kids Stewardship Council hosts a student-led conference centered around global issues, activism, and environmental stewardship. For one weekend, we camp under the stars on campus with a wildly diverse group of individuals, sharing a love for our planet and a commitment to positive change. The goal of every Wild Kids conference is to create a transferable framework of knowledge and a lasting network of change-makers. Through work and play, we find common ground.
A core component of the Wild Kids philosophy is the belief that the earth is our home, and that it's our collective responsibility to care for it. So, every year, we host this conference to spread that message and consider new, ancient, and present perspectives in a supportive and welcoming environment.
This year's theme is Protecting Wild Places in Global Communities. In light of recent and recurring events, we aim to facilitate a collaborative discussion on what it means to protect a wild place around the world. What constitutes wild? Can something still be of value if there's no monetary gain? To develop or to preserve, must these interests always conflict? We will explore the theme in the context of Mauna Kea and TMT-- an issue that hits home for many of us.
Our hope is that students leave the conference feeling invigorated with a stronger sense of belonging-- a culmination of the events that they took part in. In working towards a common goal, though perhaps with contrasting methodologies, students take away a greater appreciation for other perspectives and we can galvanize a more diverse community of change makers. Please join us!

Every year the high school students celebrate Pi Day (on March 14th) with pies donated by our HS Ohana! This year Pi Day falls on a Saturday so, we have decided to celebrate (Almost) Pi Day on March 13th during lunch (12:25-1pm)
We have had many different flavored pies in the past, the students love them all! So, pick your favorite and drop it off after school, in the high school loop, on March 12th or before school on March 13th. We would also love some help cutting and handing out the pies to the students during lunchtime (12-1pm). Please sign up HERE

Concession Stand Announcement
Hello LJA high school community! Today we are announcing the release of Student ID debit accounts brought to you by the high school student government! This means that parents will be able to load money under their child's name to be used at the high school concession stand. This point of sale system will be integrated with LJA's Spirit Store, which allows students the ability to use store credit, cash, or credit cards. In order to ensure parents' financial security, students will be required to show their School ID to a concession stand employee whenever making a purchase. Concession stand workers are trained with this new software. Directions with how to load money under your child's name are at the link below. For now this will only be offered for high school students. We hope that this will make lunch purchases easier for you and your child. Follow this link to order school lunch.
