In the first half of the event any student who wants to participate is invited to step right up, take the mic, and share a favorite poem from the stage. It can be a poem they wrote or a favorite published poem. The audience will cheer and appreciate these pieces of poetic perfection.
Then, after a short intermission, there will be an official LJA Middle School Poetry Competition in which three students from each grade (selected in classroom mini-competitions) will perform their own original poems to try to be crowned the Poet Laureate of the Middle School. LJA Wellness Message
With vaccinations ramping up and summer on the way, it feels like the end of the pandemic is beginning to enter our sights. But for kids who've spent the past year weathering so much uncertainty and disappointment, there are still challenges. This week we take a look at how parents can help kids manage their feelings and expectations during this complicated time. And we offer tips from childmind.org for supporting children who are struggling, both now and after the pandemic ends.

Technology Corner Teen Tech Talk
Spring is a good time for "spring cleaning" and a "spring reset"… a time to reevaluate and reset screen-time limits. This need not be some gigantic reset; just one or two small tweaks may be in order. Research has shown that having some defined screen limits in a home is associated with positive outcomes with academics as well as with emotional and physical health. But sorting out time off of screens is an art, and it is all about working with our kids in doing so.
Read about the four key components to consider and discuss when creating (or modifying) your family's screen rules in this article by Dr. Delaney Ruston of Screenagers the Movie called Spring Reset. 4 Steps To Setting New Screen Limits.

Travel Policy
Student travel procedure--approved by the Medical Hui--is in effect as long as the State allows a pre-travel COVID test for Mainland or International* travelers:
Student registers planned travel through designated division representative Student takes approved, pre-travel PCR test and registers through the State app With a negative, pre-travel PCR test and a second, negative, on-island PCR or antigen test 5-7 days following return to O'ahu, the student will be permitted to return to campus without condition. Until these results are known, the student will not be permitted on campus and should remain at home. If a student has a positive antigen test, then he/she would follow-up with a PCR test to verify the result, and, if positive, would follow COVID procedure. This procedure is intended to shorten the amount of time that students must learn remotely following travel relative to the 14-day quarantine alternative. If you have any questions, please email school.nurse@lejardinacademy.org.
*Neighbor island travelers will be expected to comply with current County and State regulations for travel and testing, and procedures may vary by island. Visit https://hidot.hawaii.gov/coronavirus/ for details.
