Principal's Message by Alex Ramsvig, HS Principal April 22, 2021 Aloha All,
Today, Thursday April 22nd, our entire HS is celebrating Earth day by actively participating in thoughtful environmental activities across the island. I would like to thank Joel Saito, Christina Hoe and all of our amazing faculty and students for working hard to make today success!
Friday on campus will be a day to celebrate our Seniors! Starting in the morning first thing you will see our Seniors waving to parents wearing gear from their college! Faculty and staff will also be wearing college gear in solidarity and it should be a great morning. In the afternoon we will play our long delayed "Homecoming" game with a Juniors v. Seniors kickball game!
We are in the homestretch academically this year with only three weeks before final examinations and then I-Term. Lots of events and activities in the interim as well so please follow here for more information and details!
Have a great week.

penant signing
College Pride, "Be Loud and Proud" is tomorrow April 23. We started this two years ago and unfortunately it was derailed last year, but it is back! Seniors will report to campus by 7:30am on Friday, April 23rd. By this point, most of them will have committed to their college or university and we want to celebrate this decision with our families and student body. Wear any college gear you have, bring any merchandise, make signs and/or grab your pennant from Mr. Liedtke's office...We will line the road from the wilderness entrance on down towards the middle school drop off allowing our families/students to revel in your accomplishments and honor the Class of 2021. We will also take a spin through the lower and middle school so everyone can get a glimpse and celebrate. Afterwards, we will come back to the HS campus and enjoy breakfast. Every one of you deserves this moment. Senior Skylar Webb signs the awesome board with TOK teacher and Dad Mr. Webb along her side. Board of Awesomeness celebration! This weeks commmittments include:

EARTH DAY IS EVERYDAY (but, it's also officially on the calendar for today Thursday, April 22nd)
As always, the High School will engage in a day of community stewardship on Earth Day. This is an integral part of our program, an experience that we feel is central to our mission and an essential component of our learning framework. Our annual Earth Day plan is developed by the Wild Kids Stewardship Council, building on relationships with community partners that students work hard to cultivate over the course of each school year. This year, the council members have finalized the following project options, each of which is led by a team of students and faculty members:
Check back next week for pictures from the various events.
After the release of this year's I-Term catalog, several parents shared that they wish they could take an I-Term course. Why not? This is something we are exploring for next year (or maybe even this summer): Parent Impact Term!
Take a look at our I-Term Catalog: https://ljaimpact.org/
5th Annual Common Ground Summit! Since 2016, the LJA Wild Kids Stewardship Council has hosted an annual Common Ground Summit designed to bring together diverse, multi-age communities to connect over our most common ground: the planet. This year's plan is mostly asynchronous, with local action and learning planned for LJA students each day. The students have put in significant work to collaborate with other local schools and international partners in Thailand, Hong Kong, London and Nanjing, China. You can take a look at their plans in this packet: Navigating Healing of Self, Community, and Our Planet.

With vaccinations ramping up and summer on the way, it feels like the end of the pandemic is beginning to enter our sights. But for kids who've spent the past year weathering so much uncertainty and disappointment, there are still challenges. This week we take a look at how parents can help kids manage their feelings and expectations during this complicated time. And we offer tips from childmind.org for supporting children who are struggling, both now and after the pandemic ends.
