Junior School Virtual May Day Information Aloha Families and Friends,
Our students have been hard at work preparing for this years virtual May Day celebration and are ecstatic to perform for you all. Please click the livestream link below on May 6th to be transported to our virtual showcase. We are asking for your kokua and help with drop off times during May 5th (rehearsal) and May 6th (May Day). In order to not disrupt the rehearsal and showtime, we are asking that all students be dropped off before 8am. Although we know how much you all wish you could be here on campus for this event, we do appreciate everyone following our protocols, including not lingering in the parking lot to avoid congestion at drop off as well as becoming a distraction for our performers. Feel free to share our livestream link with extended family and friends so they may enjoy the show as well!

Community Workday Opportunity At LJA, maintaining special relationships with our campus grounds and surrounding 'aina is a top priority. Our PK students have recently been presented the opportunity to engage in land stewardship while caring for the Kalo plants (rescued from the bank of Helemano Stream up on the North shore) in their outdoor classrooms. Our upcoming Community Workdays present a wonderful opportunity to bring this experience home - outside of the classroom - and get the whole family involved in becoming stewards of their environment.
Join in LJA's 60th-anniversary celebration by participating in a series of Community Workdays at Kawainui Marsh on April 24, May 8, and June 5 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m.
Projects will include native plantings, clearing of invasive plants, and creating rock paths. Click here to reserve your spot. Please RSVP separately for each workday you will attend; details will be emailed to you prior to the event.

JUNIOR SCHOOL STAFF HIGHLIGHT This week we are so excited to highlight our incredible PK Teacher Aides! Ashley Kamiya
Ashley Kamiya is our resident TA rockstar, now in her 5th year at LJA. Ms. Kamiya effortlessly assists Mrs. Yoshida in her PK class, manages the snack program for the entire Junior School, and often teaches in our summer fun program - all while raising her 3 boys who attend schools all over the island. Originally from Kahalu'u, Ashley now lives in gorgeous Ka'a'awa, where on weekends you can find her and her 'ohana working on their beautiful farm. When the farm work is done, Ashley and her boys love to spend time at the beach - swimming, diving, and fishing - but most of all, Ashley loves watching her kids play baseball and riding motocross. To fuel up or cool down, her family likes to visit Paniolos for an awesome taco bowl or Jewel or Juice for a refreshing açaí bowl. They are all excited to eventually visit Disneyland as a family - hopefully someday soon - as their trip was canceled last year due to covid. In the meantime, Ashley brings that "happiest place on Earth" attitude every day to the Junior School campus where she always has a smile and helping-hand for every child and a moment to laugh and talk story with her co-workers. Ashley's favorite part of working at LJA is building relationships and working with all the amazing families that come through our school. It shows, Ms. Kamiya, and we all love you right back!
Tesia Irvine
Tesia Irvine lives in Kāneʻohe and has been part of the LJA team for the past 2 years. When she is not busy here helping our little PK kiddos grow, she loves to go to the beach with family and friends, or you might find her grabbing some ono grinds at her favorite sandwich spot, Timmy T's Gourmet Grinders. If Tesia could visit one place outside of Hawai'i, she would love to go to Tahiti as a follow up on a project she did on it once because she envisions it as a magical place. Thank you, Ms. Irvine, for the magic you bring to Mrs. Fairbairn's class and our campus!
Samantha Garcia
For the past 5 months, Samantha Garcia has been assisting in Mrs. McDermott's PK class. She loves getting to learn new things with each young student - every day brings new opportunity and adventure! Though a native New Yorker, Samantha is drawn to the tropics, as her dream vacation is to go to Bora Bora and stay at one of their beautiful resorts! Here on Oahu, her favorite things to do on weekends are to go to the beach or hike with her family. We value the energy, smiles, and kindness Mrs. Garcia brings to our keiki. Mahalo and much love, Mrs. Garcia!
