French Summative Assessment
For their summative assessment Students in MYP 1 French created their own children's French story book and read them to the lower school French students. Gigi B. went above and beyond to create an imovie with her story. Click HERE to view. 8th Grade Visual Arts Students Learn To Paint On Canvas
8th-grade visual arts students have been learning how to paint on canvas. They have been learning to paint various painting techniques and will be applying those techniques to paint a "Bob Ross" step-by-step style type painting with Mrs. Tam. Their final summative will consist of painting their own landscape painting from a photograph that each student has taken. More pictures of the finished paintings will be featured in a later MS Weekly. Teaching Is Learning
The 8th grade visual arts class will be teaching the entire 8th grade how to create a tessellation, a subject studied in both math and visual arts. With the help of Ms. Tam, the students had to create a lesson plan and presentation for their math class. Can't wait to see the final products!
Message From The Principal
Hello MS Parents & MS Bulldogs, As we are well into the start of the final middle school activities for our current 8th graders, I just wanted to take a moment to congratulate the Class of 2021 for all their hard work. During last week's celebration parade of the seniors across campus, it really hit home how fast the journey has gone by since many of these outstanding young men and women were a big part of my first year as the new Middle School Principal just five quick years ago. I couldn't be more proud of these seniors and all they have accomplished since leaving our MS world.
Below you will hear from my esteemed and dedicated colleague Mr. Scott Liedtke, the High School Director of College Counseling, whom I've had the great fortune of getting to work with and watch him help support students year after year as they reach out to their post-secondary goals. I have often heard Scott over the past decade during our random golf outings challenge us to "play with courage" when trying to decide on a tough next shot or which club to use. When I think about this in connection to this particular class, I am even more proud that against all the "course hazards" faced, especially in this past COVID world year, they have also "played with courage". It is this courage they will take with them to the outstanding schools mentioned below along with all that they have gained from their lessons and experiences throughout their time at LJA. Thank you CLASS OF 2021 my first graduating MS Bulldogs for making us all so proud! A Glimpse At LJA's HS Life Scott Liedtke, Director of College Counseling
Aloha from the College Counseling Corner, This has been a very exciting year for the Class of 2021 (59 students). The college process itself isn't necessarily exciting, it would be considered more of a rollercoaster of emotions for everyone involved. At this point in the school year, students are making final decisions and this is where the excitement happens. Every senior class starts out thinking the most challenging part of the process is building a college list. But in fact, it is looking at all their options and picking just one. As of today, here are some of those commitments: GO BULLDOGS!

Travel Policy
Student travel procedure--approved by the Medical Hui--is in effect as long as the State allows a pre-travel COVID test for Mainland or International* travelers:
Student registers planned travel through designated division representative Student takes approved, pre-travel PCR test and registers through the State app With a negative, pre-travel PCR test and a second, negative, on-island PCR or antigen test 5-7 days following return to O'ahu, the student will be permitted to return to campus without condition. Until these results are known, the student will not be permitted on campus and should remain at home. If a student has a positive antigen test, then he/she would follow-up with a PCR test to verify the result, and, if positive, would follow COVID procedure. This procedure is intended to shorten the amount of time that students must learn remotely following travel relative to the 14-day quarantine alternative.
