Message From The Principal
Hello MS Families, The end of the year activities are in full swing. We had a successful first ever Virtual May Day last week which was enjoyed by all the students that participated and hopefully you were able to watch at home. The Band Concert last night was a great success, thanks to Kent Sato and the band students. Tonight we look forward to our Middle and High school Chorus Concert. We hope you will join in via livestream to hear all of the hard work the students and Ms. Louie have put into it. The links to all of these events can be found below. Thanks to all who helped make the events so special. May Day Celebration Live Streamed Livestream link: https://youtu.be/cT9fuECnDnU

Life In The Middle MS/HS Band Concert Here is the Livestream link if you missed the Band Concert yesterday.
MYP 2 Language And Literature
In 7th Grade Language and Literature students are right in the middle of William Shakespeare's wild and wacky comedy Twelfth Night. They are reading it in side-by-side style: On every page, Shakespeare's original text is on the left and a modernized version of the text is on the right. In this way students are getting a first good taste of The Bard's brilliance, without having to struggle with line after line. They'll finish reading the play in class next week, then watch the movie She's the Man, which is the story of Twelfth Night as it would have happened in about 2005 at an elite boarding school, rather than its original setting about 400 years earlier on an island in the Mediterranean. The culminating assessment will be a "Compare and Contrast and Defend Your Choice of Which Piece of Art is Superior" essay in the final class of the year.
So far the students have been enjoying the play and they're all eager to see how the moviemakers modernized the plot and characters and how the setting will change things! Should be fun!
P.S. She's the Man is rated PG-13. If you're a 7th grade parent and don't want your son or daughter to watch the movie, Mr. Krueger is happy to set up an alternative assessment for him/her. Just let him know at joe.krueger@lejardinacademy.org by Friday, May 21.

If you missed it, here is the recording. Keep an eye out for our read aloud book club next Fall!

Travel Policy
Student travel procedure--approved by the Medical Hui--is in effect as long as the State allows a pre-travel COVID test for Mainland or International* travelers:
Student registers planned travel through designated division representative Student takes approved, pre-travel PCR test and registers through the State app With a negative, pre-travel PCR test and a second, negative, on-island PCR or antigen test 5-7 days following return to O'ahu, the student will be permitted to return to campus without condition. Until these results are known, the student will not be permitted on campus and should remain at home. If a student has a positive antigen test, then he/she would follow-up with a PCR test to verify the result, and, if positive, would follow COVID procedure. This procedure is intended to shorten the amount of time that students must learn remotely following travel relative to the 14-day quarantine alternative. If you have any questions, please email school.nurse@lejardinacademy.org.
*Neighbor island travelers will be expected to comply with current County and State regulations for travel and testing, and procedures may vary by island. Visit https://hidot.hawaii.gov/coronavirus/ for details.
