A Message from the Head of Secondary Division Aloha, A big thank you to everyone who made our Grade 9 and 10 Parent Night, combined with the televised Bulldogs Volleyball games, a huge success! Next week is our DP Parent Night (grades 11-12) on Tuesday, September 20th, 6:00p.m.-7:30p.m. and then our College Information Night on Thursday, September 22. Please RSVP here. We are excited to have our Freshmen off to camp this week followed by our 6th grade next week! We will share information about parent and teacher conferences shortly, but in the interim, please feel free to reach out to any of your child's teachers. Have a wonderful weekend, Alex Ramsvig |
Message from the Dean of Students (9-12) Aloha Parents, My name is Vicki McNeill and I am the Dean of Students for Grades 9-12. I coordinate all student support services such as learning support and counseling and also work closely with the Deans of Academics Lindsey Schiffler (Grades 9 -12) and Rachel Dominic (Grades 6-8). We wanted to make sure you are all aware of some changes that were made over the summer regarding how students earn and maintain privileges at LJA. Students need to be in good standing academically and behaviorally in order to have open impact blocks (grades 10-12), off campus privileges (seniors only), and access to extracurriculars, including dances and athletics. Some of the new requirements for being considered in good standing involve turning work in on time, coming to class on time, and not having excessive absences. Once a student has six tardies or absences in one class in a semester, a parent conference is scheduled and possible solutions are discussed to avoid further instances of being late or absent. Once a student is absent or tardy 10 times, they could fail that class for the semester. If a student is 20 minutes or more late to class, they will be marked absent for that class. These changes were made to help students prepare for the rigor of the Diploma Program and to prepare for life beyond high school. We have found a direct correlation between academic success and regular, punctual attendance. Please let us know if you have any questions or need help with anything regarding academics or student support. Sincere thanks, Vicki McNeil |

| Message from the Learning Support Specialist |

|
Aloha e LJA parents, It is with great excitement that I write this letter of introduction to you as the Learning Support Specialist for the Secondary Division (9-12) at Le Jardin Academy. I am honored to have been invited to join a great school community and to lead a talented department devoted to serving students and supporting them through their educational journey. Since my start in early September, I've met and spoken with administrators, program supervisors, faculty, and staff. A theme I've heard repeated is that in Le Jardin Academy, decisions are based on what's in the best interest of students. I'm currently learning more from a faculty standpoint about the systems and structures in place to support students and their families, as well as faculty and staff suggestions and wishes for strengthening our practices and processes. In upcoming weeks and months, I look forward to continuing these conversations, listening and learning more, and through close collaboration with colleagues and with you and your child. Best wishes for a smooth and happy start to this new school year! Please contact me by email at zellie.kamahele@lejardinacademy.org or phone at (808)261-0707 ext. 2328 with any questions or concerns. I look forward to meeting you and to our ongoing collaboration to ensure an engaging, happy and successful school year for your children. Looking forward to meeting you, Zellie Kamahele |
