A MESSAGE FROM THE ATHLETICS DIRECTOR Aloha Parents and Students, We had to find alternative practice sites for our ILH soccer teams while our field is being completed. Until about mid November, the girls intermediate soccer team will be practicing off campus on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays at Kaneohe Marine Corps Base from 5:00-6:30 p.m. and Wednesdays on campus from 5:00-6:30 p.m. The boys intermediate team will be practicing on Mondays and Fridays at Waimanalo Gym and on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Kaelepulu Elementary School in Kailua from 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. This is subject to change. We are trying to offer transportation, but there is no guarantee of that at this time. More information will be forthcoming as details are solidified. On October 17, both girls and boys will meet on campus outside of the gym at 4:00 p.m. for the first day of practice and to review the practice plan with their coaches. Off campus practices will begin on Tuesday, October 18. Thank you, soccer families, for your flexibility with this. Please click here if you are looking at details for winter season tryout details. Thank you, Jana Fraser |

| ATHLETIC TRAINER INSIGHT HYDRATION Water is an essential component that makes up 73% of our lean body mass and is used to lubricate joints, muscle tissue, brain, heart, blood cells, neurons, and fascia. During activity, it improves reaction time, speed, and strength, giving us more energy to perform at our best. Being hydrated also promotes faster recovery after exercise, keeps headaches away, allows better digestion, helps with sleep, boosts mood, and improves memory. When we exercise, a portion of the water we consume is lost through sweat, and losing just 2% of our body mass in water greatly affects athletic performance. We become physically and mentally slower, weaker, our reaction time is greatly diminished, we experience headaches and dizziness, feel extra tired, and are unable to focus. All of this is a recipe for injury. This is why it's so important to stay hydrated throughout the day. Below are a few easy tips to keep in mind to help stay hydrated: - Carry a water bottle with you throughout the day. Aim to refill it 3-4 times
- Make sure to hydrate before, during and after activity
- If you have a hard time remembering, set reminders on your phone every hour to rehydrate
- Some people don't like the taste of plain water. Flavor it with fruits such as limes, lemons, oranges, berries, or even mint and ginger
- Sports drinks and fluid replacement additives (like Liquid IV) are good alternatives only if you will be participating in strenuous exercise for more than 1 hour.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out or come by the training room. | |
