A MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF SECONDARY DIVISION |

Aloha All, I hope everyone had a relaxing and healthy Fall Break! I was in Canada visiting family and had a delightful time! This week, I thought I might discuss Theory of Knowledge which is a vital part of the Diploma Program. Students are taught to ask questions such as how we "know" anything, and, importantly, to acknowledge that two people looking at the same situation can conclude differently and both still be right. The IB goes further and strives for our students to: - be aware of themselves as thinkers, encouraging them to become more acquainted with the complexity of knowledge
- recognize the need to act responsibly in an increasingly interconnected but uncertain world
In our Secondary program, we seek to incorporate these challenging ideas into many aspects of our teaching, giving our students a nuanced understanding of the world around them. Have a wonderful weekend, Alex Ramsvig |

A MESSAGE FROM THE SECONDARY ACADEMIC DEANS Aloha. We hope fall break was a relaxing time with family and friends. Many students appear refreshed and ready to tackle the rest of the first semester. By the time this Weekly is released, midterm marks will have been emailed to families. These interim marks will not be reported on transcripts; instead, they are designed as a mid-semester progress check. In other words, these marks are a snapshot of academic performance to date. We publish midterm marks each semester to help parents and students better understand progress between formal semester report cards. Please use the midterm grades as an opportunity to discuss your child's perceived strengths and areas of growth. Reflecting on study habits – including accessing teachers for extra support – can help when setting goals for the remainder of the semester. After reviewing midterm grades, please contact your child's teachers if there are questions or concerns. Thank you, Rachel Dominic and Lindsey Schiffler |
