Hello Alumni and Friends,

We have news to share with you about exciting growth at LJA! The school has established a formal Advancement Office tasked with aligning our communications, community building, and philanthropy across divisions. As the Stewardship and Relations Coordinator, I will focus on building and nurturing relationships within our LJA ohana.

Also new this year, we will be publishing this quarterly newsletter to share LJA news and events with you. Le Jardin's new website has launched, offering an array of opportunities to stay up-to-date. I can't wait to find ways for you to connect with the school!

With warm aloha,

Megan Markovic

Here's some good news! Congrats to LJA high school sweethearts and Class of 2013 alumni Jackie & Jacob on their wedding this August at Hale Koa Estate in Hauula. Three LJA Faculty/Staff were honored to join the celebration. We wish these two all the best in their new life together!

LOWER SCHOOL PLAYGROUND

A dream became a reality when the new Lower School playground structure was completed and blessed during a ceremony in January 2016. Students, as well as the adult faculty and parents, raced down the slide in excitement and celebration of this much anticipated moment. Mahalo to the donors who made this all possible!

ALUMNI WEEKEND

Our very first Alumni Weekend this summer was a huge success! Alumni and their families, veteran teachers, and the current LJA crew got together for a Coffee on Campus, Beach BBQ, and the 10 Year Reunion for our inaugural graduating class of 2006. It was so fun to catch up and just have some low-key fun with our ohana. Ears and hearts were filled with memories and hopes for our growing Alumni Association. If you're interested in helping us organize events, please contact us today!

PHOTOVOLTAIC UPDATE

Thanks to grants from generous donors, our photovoltaic project is moving along nicely. The trenching and running of underground electrical conduit is complete.

The installation of racking, solar panels, and microinverters is expected to be completed in October. Final electrical work is also expected to be completed in October. And if all goes smoothly, the system should be completed in December.

Photo caption: As a lead donor for LJA's solar project, representatives from The Clarence T.C. Ching Foundation visited the campus this summer for a tour of the most recent project updates. ALUMNI PANEL DISCUSSION

Mahalo to our alumni for making time to share stories about their college experiences with our high school students! We loved laughing with them and hearing about how well the IB prepared them for college. These alumni gave great advice before heading back to school last week!

FIRST DAYS OF SCHOOL

Our cameras captured a lot of happy faces during the first days of school! The LJA ohana kicked off the 2016-17 school year feeling excited to be back together and warmly welcomed new faces on campus.

WORLD CONSERVATION CONGRESS

YOUTH SYMPOSIUM

It is an honor that LJA was selected to host the first-ever IUCN World Conservation Congress Youth Symposium this September, which will bring together youth from across Hawaii and the globe to inspire activism rooted in socio-environmental ethics, promote collaboration between youth of different ages and backgrounds, and create templates and strategies for authentic community action.
