May/June 2017

Aloha everyone!  This is the last PFA newsletter of the 2016-2017 school year and final letter from me as I'm passing on the baton! I'd like to take a moment to thank you for an excellent two years as your President. I had the privilege to work with so many kind, motivated, cooperative parents as well as the impressive and helpful staff here at Le Jardin Academy. From the Teacher Appreciation events, our Fun Run, the visiting Professor Smart show… I am proud of what our PFA has accomplished this year. I could not have asked for a more cooperative, cohesive group of people. It is an honor and a privilege to be a part of this great community.

I am happy to introduce to you the new outstanding PFA Executive Committee for 2017-2018:

President - Autumn Woods
Secretary - Mercedes Fagundes
Treasurer - Jennifer Yu
VP New Families - Kaleo Ahina
VP Communications - Cris Johnson and Lisa Webster
High School Representatives - Blair Morrison and Katey Edwards
Middle School Representatives - Barney Brennan and Lara Wilcox
Lower School Representatives - Sarah Smyth
Junior School Representatives - Kristy Scherman

Thank you so much to these wonderful people who have stepped up to serve you next year. Many of these folks have been with the PFA for many years in a row they deserve many thanks for their years of service.

Our next General PFA meeting is Tuesday, 23 May at 8:15 AM in the Wang. As always, refreshments will be served and all are invited! We welcome anyone who wants to help volunteer to make our school the wonderful place it is.

We do have a number of ad hoc committees for which we need enthusiastic people to head up, so if you're interested in helping out with Teacher Appreciation, our CPK or Amazon fundraisers, or the Fun Run then let us know!

Finally, the PFA is hosting our annual Volunteer Appreciation Event for any of you who have donated your time this year with the PFA or PFA-related events.  Please come at your leisure for coffee, fruit, and pastries from anytime from 8 AM to 10 AM on Wednesday, 31 May in the Dahl. The PFA couldn't do the many activities without the involvement of so many here at Le Jardin. We want you to know we appreciate all of your support!

Again, it has been an honor to serve you all as the PFA President these past two years. I wish you all a safe and wonderful summer.

Morgan LaRue
PFA President

Le Jardin's Annual Blue Moon Gala

Thanks to the generosity of our community, Blue Moon Gala on Saturday was a great success with approximately $140,000* raised for Le Jardin Academy! Guests had a roaring good time dancing and raising their paddles in support of our students.

Storytelling at Earth Day

Majken Johansson wanted to express her appreciation to the PFA for sponsoring the storyteller as part of Earth Day.

"Craig Jenkins was OUTSTANDING and he was enjoyed by our K-2 keiki as well as our 8th graders.  He was hysterical and kept them all fully engaged. It was quite a show."

Craig is a professional storyteller and educationalist who performs traditional folktales and the Indian epics of Ramayana and Mahabharata. He also writes plays and runs workshops that use traditional stories as a means of addressing contemporary social issues.

Last General PFA Meeting May 23rd at 8:15am in the Wang.  We hope to see you all there.

Refreshments will be served.  This will be a great time to meet your new PFA Board and possibly join a committee or lend a hand for the upcoming school year.  We appreciate our parent support throughout the year and would love to meet you!
