Reminders and Updates from the Principal

  • MAP REPORTS - We are in the process of working with ManageBac to streamline the process for uploading our students' score reports for parents' review. In the interim, please email if you would like an advanced PDF copy emailed or printed out for you. Once the reports have been uploaded for MS and HS, I will send out an email with more information regarding the report details.

  •  ON CAMPUS CHECKING IN - Parents please remember that if you are coming onto campus to drop off items for your child, you should please check-in at the MS office or the main receptionist desk to leave the items there for pickup or delivery. We ask for this support and cooperation to lessen the disruptions to classes as well as maintaining a safe campus where all visitors sign in at the MS office. Please note this also includes your child's locker.

  • DRESS CODE UPDATES - In order to address some confusion and concerns with the dress code for the MS, we will be revising the descriptions and guidelines currently in place. We will communicate out to the students directly once the revisions are in place as well as sharing the information out to parents via the weekly newsletter. Please note these revisions should not significantly impact your child's attire as they are related more to better understanding for items like length of shorts.

MYP Minute

Aloha LJA families,

Thanks to all of you who came to the Parents' Turn to Learn sessions. I am linking the Assessment in the MYP presentation HERE, as many of you have asked questions following the release of the midterm report about how grades are determined. Take a look at this with your child, and have him/her try to explain it to you!

Many of you have also asked how to know what the numbers mean? In other words, what does a 3 out of 8 mean in a particular subject? Here's a quick Managebac tip: *To see the rubric descriptors for the different levels: Go to the 'progress' tab and go to the little 'i' next to his/her grades, you will see descriptions of the criteria at the different levels from 0-8.

Any other questions related to MYP assessment, please don't hesitate to send them my way!

Have a happy post-Halloween weekend,

Service As Action Corner

Juniper Krog, SA and Learning Support Coordinator

How Do I Document My Service as Action Activities in Managebac?
One of our LJA 8th graders created This Wonderful SA Screencast Tutorial to help you start the process of documenting SA on Managebac.

Please watch! Or, read the steps here:

Step One: Log on to your Managebac account, and find the SA page by navigating to IB Manager, then Choose SA from the dropdown menu.
Step Two: Locate the tab in the top right corner that is labelled "+Add Activity" and click on it. This will bring you to the Planning Worksheet for SA. Please fill out the form as directed.
Step Three: At the bottom of the form, there is a blue button which is labeled "Add SA Activity", click that! This is how you save your work.

That's it! Managebac will now send a note to your advisor automatically to request that they approve your activity. Once they approve it, the next step is to do the service action itself. NOTE: You may also fill in this planning form retroactively, but please note that approval from your advisor is necessary so it is best to get prior approval when possible, to be sure your activity is something that fits the requirements of the MYP SA program. If it is not approved, your advisor will let you know why, and suggest some ways to change the activity or do a different activity instead. Stay tuned for another tutorial in the coming weeks on how to reflect (final step) on your SA activity!! If you have questions feel free to contact me, Juniper Krog, IB Service as Action Coordinator, Phone: 808.261.0707 ext 3150

HS/MS Winter Concert

December 12th

MYP 2 and 3 and SEA Chorus and Band students will be performing in our annual winter concert. Please save the date! As a part of the first quarter 6th grade chorus course the students learned how vocal sound is created through an investigation into their voice as their primary instrument. Through this form of expression, the students worked together as they focused on proper vocal technique, music literacy and singing in an ensemble. To demonstrate their technique the students sang a diverse repertoire of songs, some of which they will be performing in the High School and Middle School Winter concert on December 12th. First and second quarter chorus students will all join the Middle School SEA block ensemble and high school concert choir as a large ensemble for this annual performance. Please email Ms. Loui if you have any questions regarding your child's participation in this event.
