Lower School Principal Message

There seems to be a misconception that there is a "No Homework Policy" in the Lower School. This is incorrect. Please click here to read our policy which was altered to recognize that each student has individual needs as well as ensure we follow research which concludes that a stack of worksheets will not boost your child academically.  Instead we aim to give logical homework as needed. TURKEY TROT
On Tuesday, Nov 20th we will have our annual Turkey Trot on the soccer field, organized by PE Teacher Wendy Sprague to celebrate health and share appreciations before the Thanksgiving holidays. Parents are welcome to join from 8:00 – 9:30am; wear your running gear!

 

CANNED FOOD DRIVE
As we put Halloween behind us, we will start a canned food drive the month of November as we begin thinking about giving back. The canned food will be picked up on Nov 16th.

 

TOYS FOR TOTS
The annual Toys for Tots is another collection that has just started and will take place from November 7 – December 6 in the front office. This drive is organized by the Marines, who collect new and unwrapped toys for kids newborn to age 18. The toys will be distributed to families in need on Oahu. In the past we have filled nine gigantic boxes; this year we are aiming for ten!

Special guests Peleke Sacatropez and Kait Contillo came to do a presentation for Grades 2 and 4 about traditional Hawaiian art forms focusing on kakau - ancient and modern, and self-expression through carvings on natural materials. 

     Peleke is an instructor of kalai la'au and kālai 'iwi (Hawaiian wood and bone carving) at the Windward Community College. Kait is a long-time student of kalai la'au and cultural practitioner of la'aulapa'au (Hawaiian medicine) and assists Peleke in teaching his classes at WCC.
