CULTURAL EXCHANGES

LJA students had two opportunities in the past week to have direct cultural exchanges with visiting schools from Japan. MS students visiting the Kagoshima Fisheries High School training fishing vessel had a chance to learn about this specialized school, tour the ship, and share about LJA. Kagoshima students in turn were surprised and excited to watch our Homecoming assembly.

A few days later, 18 students from Kawachimachi, Ibaraki spent the day with us. Our MS students practiced their language skills by taking them on campus tours and shared musical endeavors by teaching them Hawaiian songs. In turn, Kawachimachi students taught our students the art form of "etegami" or "picture letter," a traditional custom of painting and writing on postcards.
