ANNOUNCING HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL

After a comprehensive search process, Le Jardin Academy is proud to announce the appointment of Alex Ramsvig as our incoming High School Principal. Alex currently serves as LJA's High School Dean of Academics/DP Coordinator and Acting High School Principal. 

 

Alex brings an extensive range of expertise and experience to the position, including: a B.A. in History, Juris Doctor (JD), and Masters of Law (LLM). He is also a licensed teacher, certified swimming and soccer coach, and licensed attorney in both the U.S. and Canada. Alex's strong communication skills and growth mindset will serve LJA's community well. Throughout his time at LJA, Alex has demonstrated that he is an exceptional listener and thoughtful collaborator, and he will work well with LJA's many constituents.

 

Alex and his wife, Kyle, are parents of River and Rory, who are both students at LJA's Junior School. Kyle is also a LJA long-term sub at LJA and grade level parent.

STUDENTS HEADED TO CALI WITH ALL STATE MARCHING BAND

Eva Ramm '20 and Brin Jaffe '21 are representing LJA in Na Koa Ali'i, Hawaii's All State Marching Band. They have been rehearsing monthly since February with band students from all over Oahu, and will join others from the outer islands to take part in the annual Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade in California on New Year's Day.

JINGLE ROCK RUN

LJA families were the largest group to participate in last year's Jingle Rock Run, which supports Make-A-Wish. Join us for the 5K run/walk in downtown Honolulu on Dec. 16.  You can pick up your race packet at LJA and registration fees are waived for LJA families. CHRISTINA HOE RECEIVES STANFORD TEACHER TRIBUTE

Christina Hoe, LJA's Associate Director of Experiential Learning and a classroom teacher for many years, was recently selected by Mahie Wilhelm '18 to receive the Stanford University Teacher Tribute. Students from Stanford University's incoming freshman class were given the opportunity to formally acknowledge an educator who played a significant role in their intellectual, academic, and personal development.

MODEL UNITED NATIONS

LJA MUN delegates attended the Hawai'i Pacific Model United Nations Conference at the Hawai'i Convention Center.  Four hundred students from Hawaii, California and Japan participated in the event. 17 students from our school, showcased their parliamentary procedures and debate skills in 8 Joint Crisis Committees and two General Assemblies.  Students had the opportunity to interact with Benjamin Lee, a Human Rights Policy Advisor to the Australian Permanent Mission to the UN in Geneva. India Spriggs '19 and Sidney Grimsley '19 each co-chaired a committee.  Hannah Kurosu '20 received a Researched Award and Carabelle Abbas '20, John Helman '19 and Cole Ewalt '21 received Verbal Commendations. 

CHRISTMAS TREE PICK-UP

Thank you to everyone who purchased Christmas trees, poinsettia, and wreaths from Project Grad. The pick-up date is Dec. 1 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

HELP MAKE SPIRITS BRIGHT AT OLOMANA SCHOOL

LJA's fourth and fifth graders are teaming up with fifth graders from Punahou School to collect donations for families with students at Olomana School. In addition to the blankets, towels, slippers, and hygiene products that students will be collecting and contributing, Olomana School is seeking laundry baskets and detergent, paper towels, sponges, gift cards, and healthy snacks.  Please bring donations to the Middle School drop-off on Dec. 1 between 9 a.m. and noon.

TOYS FOR TOTS

Help brighten the holiday season for a child in need by donating a new and unwrapped toy at any of our drop-off areas: Main Office, High School, and Junior School. Collection dates are through Dec. 6.

 

We currently have four boxes filled and we're hoping to match our efforts last year with 10 boxes! For questions, please contact Ann Medeiros at 382-6271.
