SHIMIDA HIGH SCHOOL VISIT LJA

On December 4, 42 students from Shimada High School in Japan visited us and shadowed our students in our Japanese and  Spanish Programs.  Shimada students experienced school life in the US.  Both Shimada and LJA students used their innate linguistic skills and communicated with each other.  Their feedback was very positive and they loved our school.

HS Academics Thoughts

by Alex Ramsvig, HS Dean of Academics

Aloha All,

Happy last week of classes for Semester 1! As a reminder, all HS students have their end of semester examinations next week and should know where/when/what for each of their classes. As an additional reminder, only students who have completed the parent permission form should be on campus at any time next week when not taking exams. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Here are some general exam preparation tips:
Cells phones and studying are a bad combination. Encourage your student to have their cell phone in a different room while they are studying.
Build in study breaks. The brain is like any other organ in the body and can only operate at peak efficiency for so long.  A good break activity would involve physical activity (take a walk, do some quite stretching), as opposed to more mental activity (writing emails, texting).
Have a study plan- it is impossible to study everything for every subject all the time. Instead, block out time.
Remind your student that while examinations are "high pressure" in a sense, they should not be "high stress". These exams are only one data point used for the calculation of grades, and should be a reflection of their understanding for a whole semester. Please reach out if you notice your student moving from regular exam time stress into something more serious.

Have a great weekend!
