PFA NOMINATIONS-Message from Morgan LaRue

Hello All,

It's time to start thinking about next year's PFA team! If you or someone you know would like to be a part of the team, please nominate them in the link below. This is an excellent way to get involved and it's always an exciting time of year to recruit new faces to our PFA family.

There is no obligation to anyone in the nominations process. We will make sure all nominees are ready to put their name on the ballot when it's time for elections.

If anyone has any questions about the various positions, you can click here:

or feel free to contact me or Autumn with any questions.

Thank you very much,

Students from Lower School, Middle School and High School counted 26 Waterfalls on Wednesday!

Let's do that for our Teachers, Principals, Administrators, Blue Crew and all of the Support Staff at LJA as they do what they do and prepare for the final months of the school year with our children! HS Academics Thoughts

by Alex Ramsvig, HS Dean of Academics

On Friday of this week, please feel free to take some time to look through ManageBac as teachers now have some marks and task assignments up and ready for viewing. As it is the start of the term, most classes will only be just starting to prepare for the first round of summative assessments. As always, please feel free to reach out to any of your student's teachers if you have any questions or concerns.

We were pleased that almost every single Sophomore spent time with their families and teachers over the past two weeks to make course selections for the DP Program next year. These choices are important, obviously, as students start thinking about college and even life after school. One point I always like to emphasize though is that the strength of the DP program allows students to chose subjects that interest them and in general there are no academic doors closed even if interests change.

Finally, teachers will be engaged THIS Friday in a full day of Professional Development working on long term planning for the Approaches to Teaching and Learning (academic skills) as required in both MYP and DP.

Have a great week and holiday!

Days for Girls

By Greta Barron, HS English Educator

A few months ago, our Days for Girls group sent off several of our reusable menstruation kits with Deborah Quigley (the Honolulu team leader) when she went to Greece to help with the Yazidi refugees. Deborah wrote to us recently to let us know the impact we're having there. Apparently, the word is spreading in the camp about our free alternative to disposable pads (which are in short supply there). She sent us this picture of one of the baskets she set up in the camp which includes several of the PODs that we made!

Our group has helped in South Africa, the Philippines, and now the refugees in Greece. We are proud to work with this international non-profit that helps girls and women worldwide. For more information about this wonderful organization, visit, or talk with 12th grader Morgan Schaefer, who has worked incredibly hard for the last two years sewing, leading, educating, and distributing the kits.  I'm proud of my kiddos and had to brag about all the work they've done :)
