Principal's Message

by Vicki McNeill, HS Principal

Thanks to all the parents who attended last Friday's HS coffee with the Principal!

Special thanks to Melissa Handy who shared extremely important information regarding cyber safety and phishing scams. Also mahalo to our panel of seniors, Berkana, Gianna, Luciano, Sean, Sidney and Kennedy, who spoke with the parents about their experiences at LJA, some going all the way back to Junior School! The group talked about their wide ranging variety of extracurricular activities and how they have learned to balance them with their rigorous academic classes. They spoke to questions from the parents about how they manage their time, the distractions of social media and gaming, and how they came to find the interests and passions they are now pursuing.

When asked about what advice they would give to younger students, several students said they would encourage them to always ask their teachers for help and to not believe the "hype" about how hard the Diploma Programme can be. They all agreed that their experiences in the DP were well worth the effort and hard work because it has prepared them so well for college and the future.

I was reminded for the thousandth time about how special our kids are and how blessed we are to work with them.  I was also reminded how much I appreciate the faculty and staff who give so selflessly of themselves to help our kids. We look forward to providing this experience again in the future and encourage any of you who could not attend last week to come ask your questions and get to know our amazing students better!

HS Academics Thoughts

by Alex Ramsvig, HS Dean of Academics

 Aloha All,

The past week seems to have been smooth sailing with academics in the HS--certainly many students have been extra busy with the Spring Play and "Hell Week" rehearsals.

One big upcoming item is the DP 2 final exams which will take place in May. With the exception of the very first day, all testing will take place again this year at Saint Stephen Diocesan Centre. This facility was used last year and was a wonderful environment giving our students the best chance to perform well. Of course, we are keeping a close eye on the traffic situation in relation to the closure of the Pali tunnel. Additional information will be provided to seniors and parents of seniors in the coming weeks.

As always, please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you!

LJA Spring Play- Needs your help!
Everyone in the LJA Theatre department has been working very hard on this year's original play "Look Before You Leap." Because the play is at 6:30pm, we would like to have some dinner options available for our guests to purchase (on the final night, Part One starts at 4:30, with a 6:30 dinner break before Part Two starts at 7:00). We will also offer the usual drinks, snacks and desserts. We will have candy/snack leis that will be available for family and friends to purchase for their student actor or crew member.

We can only make this happen with your SUPPORT.

Please sign up to VOLUNTEER OR DONATE.

Thank you in advance for your help!
