STUDENT ART ON ELECTRIC BUS FLEET

The artwork of seniors Kennedy-Anne Marx and Kailey Suezaki are displayed on the new electric busses that were unveiled last Friday.

Three full-size buses were unveiled at a blessing ceremony at the Travel Plaza Transportation Bus Facility in central Honolulu, where they will be stored and powered utilizing a dedicated charging station installed for that purpose. The buses will initially operate routes provided by JTB in Waikiki and downtown Honolulu, with service beginning in April. Each bus can carry 77 passengers, reach a top speed of 65 miles per hour if needed, and can travel for 250 miles on a single charge.

SPRING PLAY SUCCESS

Congratulations to the 80-plus high school and middle school students who participated as cast or crew in the five-hour, two-part original epic "Look Before You Leap", a comic spoof of James Bond spy films that closed last weekend. The play was written by six students and the two drama teachers. Set in 1962 during the Cuban Missile Crisis, the story follows the misadventures of a spy who takes a vacation from her dangerous work to marry an unwitting civilian. Featuring two Bond-style villains who have individual plots to take over the world, some hilarious teacher cameos, and imagining that the President of the United States is Colonel Sanders from Kentucky Fried Chicken rather than John F. Kennedy, the play had hilarious moments and something for everyone.

LJA AWARDED THREE OF SIX SCHOLARSHIPS

The Society of the Friends of St. Patrick, Hawaii Chapter, awards six outstanding high school seniors with $2,000 college scholarships. Students submit essays outlining their achievements and knowledge of Irish culture, as well as recommendations and transcripts. Of this year's six recipients, three are LJA seniors: James, Sophie, and Gianna.

These students were honored at the 65th annual Emerald Ball held on March 9 with a celebratory dinner with traditional Irish food and entertainment.

SENIOR SPOTLIGHT: KAILEY SUEZAKI

Kailey entered Le Jardin Academy during Grade 7. During her time here, she played varsity volleyball and last year, contributed illustrations to the school's Annual Report publication.

She shares that her LJA education "has been very meaningful because the learning philosophy at LJA is to understand and appreciate all perspectives and viewpoints, rather than just obtain stores of knowledge. I feel really prepared for my college years."

Kailey hopes to attend the University of Portland, but has also applied to University of Oregon and Loyola Marymount University. She plans to enter an architecture/environmental design program.

Wherever your journey leads Kailey, we hope LJA is one of the detours.
