IB promotes itself as doing a better job at cultivating "inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who are motivated to succeed ... and who will build a better world through intercultural understanding and respect." The words take on more meaning as one considers the origins of the IB--rising from the carnage of a series of world wars and global conflicts, rising from the inability of nations to solve complex problems. The founders of IB education truly believed that a different approach to learning needed to be integrated into the traditional subjects in order to make the world a better place. Is this why we--students, parents and educators--are at LJA or is it for some other set of reasons/interests?
Why should you engage in our Conversation with Our Community: International Mindedness on March7? We asked a few members of our school-community, and here's your pre-test:
I hope that you will join us as we hear from a panel of speakers who approach international mindedness from different perspectives -- diplomatic, commercial and educational -- then engage in conversation on the approaches, programs and experiences necessary to foster deep understanding of who we are and where we are going as an institution. The deadline is this Thursday for this 2019-20 school year challenge! SENIOR SPOTLIGHT Eva Ramm has attended Le Jardin Academy since starting in Kindergarten in 2009. In recent years at LJA, she's played flute in the school band and has participated in Amnesty International Club, National Honors Society, and Wild Kids. Eva is also a photographer and editor for the annual yearbook.
"The highlight of my time at LJA has been I-Term! I organized an independent photography-focused trip to Kauai this year, and Hawaii island last year." Eva notes that LJA teachers have made a huge impact on her: "they are passionate and committed to helping us achieve our goals. I've really realized that this past year because of the amazing support we have received throughout the college search process."
Come fall, Eva will attend the University of Colorado Boulder, her parent's alma mater. After visiting the school last summer, she found that along with the great academics and beautiful location, there are a lot of great outdoor activities near campus. "I'm looking forward to experiencing four seasons!" She will study atmospheric and oceanic sciences, and wants to participate in the hiking club and the school's marching band.
