Middle School and Distance Learning Updates
Aloha Parents,
We hope your child had a positive start to distance learning. I personally have enjoyed joining in on several Zoom and Google Meet classes this week and seeing and hearing the students. As always, please let us know if you need any assistance or have any questions or concerns. If you would like to see more information about the LJA Distance Learning program we developed please click HERE. As mentioned in previous communications, the MS Distance Learning page can also be accessed from the school's website as well.
On behalf of our MS teachers and staff, we hope you all are well and have a safe and enjoyable weekend.

Student Support Team Information
I hope this finds you well as we all learn how to negotiate school in this strange new world! We want to make sure you are aware of some additional available support being put in place and offered digitally from our Student Support Team. This team consists of learning support coordinators, counselors, IB coordinators and administration. This team is gathering input from teachers, parents and students in order to coordinate support for students who may be struggling with this new digital platform
If your child has a formal learning support plan: Davie Yarborough in the High School and Juniper Richardson in the Middle School will be reaching out to these students over the next few days to check on student's progress in the new distance learning format. They will continue these digital periodic check ins with students throughout the month of April or until we have everyone back on campus. We will be formalizing a plan for each student which will be shared with parents next week. The coordinators will also be calling parents next week as well.
If your child receives support from school counselors: Middle/High School counselors, Sean Landau, Amy Yeager and Jessica Osbourne have already sent information to students which includes a link allowing students to make an appointment to speak with a counselor digitally. Counselors will be directly contacting students who they regularly support at school. If you are concerned about your child and would like to seek support for them from a counselor, please email them to initiate a conversation.
Please know that while we are committed to delivering a strong academic program at this time, we are equally committed to and concerned for our student's social/emotional health and wellbeing. Please feel free to contact us at any time if you have concerns about your child or would like help supporting them through this experience.

Liam B. Takes a Uniques Approach to Completing a Book Report
Here's a pretty awesome project that Liam B. (Gr. 7) completed for Mr. Krueger's English class. It's a 2020 style "Book Report" on Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand. It's a Google Earth journey that explains where the hero traveled and what he did at each stop along the way. It's pretty cool. Check it out and you maybe inspired to read the book yourself after seeing Liam's project!

Coming soon to a theater in your home. Le Jardin will soon host a live stream viewing of Screenagers NEXT CHAPTER: Uncovering Skills for Stress Resilience, a documentary film about helping young people thrive in our screen and stress-filled world. Learn why excess screen time is correlated with increased anxiety and depression and what to do to protect your child. Right now during this COVID-19 crisis, parents can support kids in being physically active as much as possible, and to access activities that will help them feel connected to family, friends, and their teachers. Watch for more information to come about this evening event.
Both Parent Portal and the Distance Learning Website have a chat function if you need immediate live assistance from a LJA employee.
Please contact Melissa Handy at melissa.handy@lejardinacadem.org if you use assistive technology and are currently experiencing challenges with the distance learning website or any content posted by classroom teachers.
