Principal's Message by Alex Ramsvig, HS Principal
Aloha All,
This week, I thought I would address a question I have heard a few times from parents, specifically: "I can see my child is working during the day, but I don't really know on what -- what is going on?" This is understandable for a few reasons. First, for many parents who are also now at home, you are seeing your child engage in school in a new way. Secondly, with HS students being almost entirely self-sufficient and working through their laptops, it is tough to tell what is going on other than seeing that something is happening with school.
To make things easier, here are some questions to ask your student. Of course, if you are still concerned or confused please reach out to me.
1. Ask to see the weekly plan for their classes. All classes put out a general guide to the following week by Friday at 5pm so you could see the key points for that week.
I know HS students can sometimes be a bit elusive, but asking for some specifics might help. Again, if you are still unsure please do not hesitate to reach out and we can chat.
Finally, in our effort to ensure that all students are fully supported we have been rolling out an online version of our "get it done" program. For those that do not know, this is normally a lunch time session that students attend if they have homework still to complete. For the online version, we are simply reaching out to both parents and students if our records show there is some work missing. Of course, with everything going on, the purpose is truly to offer support and problem solve.
If you have any questions at all, please contact me at alex.ramsvig@lejardinacademy.org
Please feel free to visit ljaflex.org for ways you and your whole family can be engaged, active and part of our community every day!
Have a great weekend and stay safe!

Strive Virtual College Exploration Week
In light of recent Neighbor Island College Fair and NACAC College Fair cancellations across our state and nationally, the Hawaii Association for College Admission Counseling has partnered with StriveScan and other associations around the country to provide a virtual alternative.
Strive Virtual College Exploration Week Monday, April 20 - Thursday, April 23, 2020 300+ colleges from 44 states and 10 countries
The Strive Virtual College Exploration Week provides a robust and diverse schedule of events, with 300+ colleges from around the country. Colleges nationally will be sharing their knowledge and expertise, and we encourage you to promote this to your families and communities over the next few weeks. Students and families can visit StriveScan.com/virtual to view the schedule of sessions and register.
The 96 panel presentations include topics ranging from: Finding college fit
Students can browse the schedule or search based on topic, state, or specific college/university. They can also get more information on each institution presenting, including the school's location, size, average GPA, test scores, and Test Optional status.
Student Registration Students should register for each panel that they want to attend. Once they register, they'll receive a confirmation email with their unique link to join the Zoom webinar. (Students will also receive a barcode, but the barcode is not necessary for this virtual event.)
DISTANCE LEARNING REMINDER
Aloha LJA High School Parents and Students:
Teachers' "Office Hours" are when students have their class time and that is the best time to reach teachers for help (as they may be teaching other classes before or after a student's scheduled class time).
**We are following a J-Day (Monday); A-Day (Tuesday); R-Day (Wednesday) and D-Day (Thursday) class schedule each week in Distance Learning!**
Fridays are Flex or "X" Days. On Flex days, students may:
If a student needs help or has any questions outside of the class meeting time, please email individual teachers and they will get back to you as soon as they can!
Class overviews for the following week are posted by the end of the day on Fridays!
Attendance & Missing Work: We also hope to mitigate the volume of emails parents are receiving during this time. That said, if at any point you need to contact your child's teacher please continue as before, to email them directly for their support and clarification. Please see the following information that was communicated out to the students this week.
