Principal's Message by Alex Ramsvig, HS Principal August 27, 2020
Aloha All,
Our first full week of Distance Learning seems to have been, overall, a big success. I can report that students and parents have been highly complimentary of our teachers and their innovative, thoughtful lessons already. One area of improvement which we are working on is ensuring the right balance between the amount of synchronous and asynchronous teaching happening in each day. We met as a faculty this week and students should see adjustments in the coming week.
Thank you, Alex
HS Dean of Academics & DP Coordinator Lindsey Schiffler
Aloha parents, guardians, students, and community members:
I want to start by celebrating some of the accomplishments of our 2020 graduating class. Several parents and students recently shared exciting news about the amount of college credits earned based on IB DP results. One parent said her daughter received enough credits to enter college with sophomore standing. One of the graduates said he was approved to register for a 300-level Japanese course. Another piece of feedback speaks to the value of the DP program. A 2019 graduate told me he was more prepared for the rigor of college classes than his non-IB peers.
These examples are huge motivators for our high school students, especially our seniors who are in the process of completing college applications and our juniors who just started the DP program. For more information about the Diploma Program, I encourage families to attend the DP 11 and 12 Parent Night on September 1 via Zoom. Register Here. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at lindsey.schiffler@lejardinacademy.org.
Mahalo!

8/20/20 Aloha Parents!
We survived the first full week of distance learning and we hope it was a successful one for students and parents getting back into the flow of school. Two weeks ago we talked about the 4Cs of Le Jardin's Online Learning Protocol (Connections, Communication, Collaboration, and Critical & Conceptual Thinking). This week we will explore Connections.
Here are some fun ideas to connect with friends on Zoom: -Game Night: Charades, Pictionary(skribbl.io), Trivia, Guess the Song, Virtual lip Reading Battle -Book Club: Stay tuned! We will start one in next week's newsletter. -Art, Music, or Design Night: Create something collaboratively and send us your video! -Chopped! Cooking Competition: Pick a funny ingredient that must be included! -Workout Buddies -Movie Night: Watch one together with popcorn, or collaborate making one
