Clarification of Mayor's Order On Tuesday the Mayor announced a "stay-at-home, work-at-home" order that suggested that private schools would be required to shut down in-person instruction and care programs. Prior to the signing of the order the following day, however, the Governor had the language changed. LJA is permitted to remain open for First Responder and Staff childcare and, if conditions permit, a return to face-to-face learning for all students.
LJA remains at Level 3 due to three factors:
Looking ahead, we anticipate a phased return to campus as soon as the Governor's/Mayor's order is lifted on September 9th. This projection is optimistic and hinges on the effectiveness of the partial shutdown ordered on August 19th, and this week's more restrictive order. We will not return to campus until the indicators respond favorably.
Our Medical Hui strongly reminds all of us--students, families and staff--that if we want to re-open and keep in-person learning, everyone must remain vigilant and cautious. Complacency literally kills (and shuts down schools), so we need every individual to do his/her part. The re-opening experience of other enterprises and countries suggests that a little bit of prevention by each individual results in a substantial positive return. Mahalo for your kōkua.
Our Hui tells us of the extraordinarily long and unremitting shifts that our first responders have endured in order to serve those who are suffering. We will, therefore, continue to offer our First Responders' Childcare Program as service to these intrepid individuals and our community. Operating the program also provides us an opportunity to hone our campus safety procedures and protocols. At our Junior School, we are working to enhance the program in two ways (1) additionally including children of essential workers as capacity permits and (2) testing an instructional model that will better support in-person and remote learners when we return to Level 2.
EMERGENCY TESTING We will conduct a test of our emergency notification system, Blackboard Connect, on September 3 and 4. The test message will be sent to all parents on September 3, and to faculty and staff on September 4.
This system allows the school to reach all members of our community during unforeseen events or emergencies.
Several messages will be sent during this test:
These calls and messages will indicate that the alert is a test of the system. We plan to issue a test of this system each semester to ensure that it is functioning properly.
If you do not receive a message, please email support@lejardinacademy.org. BULLDOGS FOREVER We invite all Bulldogs--past, present, and future--to join Bulldogs Forever! This exclusive online network was created to solidify, celebrate, and deepen your connections within our LJA 'ohana.
