Fall Break: No School Monday - Friday October 12th - 16th
Reminders & Updates From The Principal Julie Do, MS Principal
Dear Parents,
As we near the start of Fall Break I would like to thank our LJA MS ohana for all the extra support with following our school guidelines to help keep our campus safe. I have been super proud and impressed with our MS students for adjusting to the many new realities of life in the middle on campus. Their willingness to be positive community members has been really apparent and greatly appreciated. In order to help with a safe return back to campus after break, we are asking all families to please adhere to our school policies and communicate appropriately as needed. Our MS ohana strength and community cooperation is paramount in being able to continue successfully navigating these uniquely challenging times. Below we are re-listing some very important items from the previous two newsletters along with a couple of new updates. Thank you for taking the time to review and respond as needed. I hope you all have a relaxing and safe Fall Break.
Learning Model Change
October 19th will be the first day of the 2nd quarter. At this time we invite families to consider what learning model they would like for the next quarter: distance learning or face-to-face. Please fill out this FORM if requesting a change. There is no need to complete the form if your child will be staying in their current learning model.
Travel Policy
LJA's policy for out-of-state travel requires that:
Clubs/Early Release
We will be starting Clubs on Fridays at 2:30pm after the Fall Break. Parents may opt for early release (click HERE) instead of having their child participate in a Club and may pick them up at 2:30 in the Middle School Lane. If you would like your child to stay and participate in a Club you DO NOT need to fill out this form.

The Global Read Aloud: One Book to Connect the World
How it works:
We have connected with a school in Europe and North America. Students will be able to share their opinions and responses to the books with students through FlipGrid. Prairie Lotus by Linda Sue Park is a powerful, touching, multilayered book about a girl determined to fit in and realize her dreams: getting an education, becoming a dressmaker in her father's shop, and making at least one friend. Acclaimed, award-winning author Linda Sue Park has placed a young half-Asian girl, Hanna, in a small town in America's heartland, in 1880. Hanna's adjustment to her new surroundings, which primarily means negotiating the townspeople's almost unanimous prejudice against Asians, is at the heart of the story. Narrated by Hanna, the novel has poignant moments yet sparkles with humor, introducing a captivating heroine whose wry, observant voice will resonate with readers. This is NOT a history book. This is a book about the here and now. A book to help us better understand why we are where we are. A book about race.
Through a gripping, fast-paced, and energizing narrative written by beloved award-winner Jason Reynolds, this book shines a light on the many insidious forms of racist ideas--and on ways readers can identify and stamp out racist thoughts in their daily lives.
Global collaboration is necessary to show students that they are part of something bigger than them. That the world needs to be protected and that we need to care for all people.
