The FRC program requires the team to build a large robot (up to 5 feet tall) that can achieve various tasks like picking up and throwing a ball or moving field elements. This year will be quite different and the team is not sure what to expect when the January kick-off event rolls around. So far, the student team has written a total of five grants and have been awarded three, for a total of $4,000; they plan to submit two more soon. The Department of Defense presented LJA with a $2,550 STEM award and promised to share one of their experts as a mentor - our very own team parent, Julie Weinstein. FIRST also contributed $1,000 toward registration fees for the season through their "Wheels on the Ground" program. And NASA has generously gifted $450 for robot parts and tools. FLU SHOTS It is especially important to decrease respiratory illnesses during the COVID-19 pandemic by preventing the flu, and the best prevention is getting vaccinated. Click here for more about the flu vaccine.
LJA is offering a flu vaccine clinic on Nov. 9 from 9-11 a.m. for students 11 years and older. Please sign the attached consent form if you would like your child to receive the flu shot. Parental consent forms are due by Nov. 4 and can be dropped off at the Health Room or emailed to School Nurse at mary.elkins@lejardinacademy.org. Please include your child's pediatrician's name and phone number so the pharmacist can provide proof of immunization for their records. Please note: Cigna and Aetna insurance are not accepted.
