MYP1 humanities students are finishing up their Product Life Cycle Analysis Projects. After researching various products, they demonstrated their understanding of ethical trade and ways in which resource distribution and consumption impact both humans and the environment. Gigi B. researched pineapple production and recommended improvements in terms of scientific pest control, food safety programs, and ways in which workers and farming communities can have enhanced living conditions. She also brought in ono pineapple popsicles.
Happy New Years!
I hope you all had a restful holiday break and are feeling recharged for this much anticipated new year. Although it seems we as a national community are once again facing some challenging events in recent days, I take comfort in knowing we work each day with a bright, articulate, positive student community and with them there is hope we will continue to build and strengthen our abilities to find more peaceful resolutions to our differences with others.
Thank you parents for entrusting us with the honor of teaching, supporting and caring for your children in their academic pursuit as well as their social-emotional development in these unprecedented times. On behalf of the Life in the Middle Team of dedicated teachers and staff, we wish you all a promising new year of better health and peace for our communities near and far. As always please don't hesitate to contact us with any questions or for information as needed.
Best regards, Julie Do, MS Principal Important Upcoming Events & Reminders
Friday, January 8 - End of the first semester Monday, January 11 - Start of second semester Friday, January 22 - Semester 1 Progress Reports released
Semester Progress Report Information Rachel Domenic, Dean of Academics
With the middle school semester ending this Friday, we will have reports coming out January 22. Check out the assessment slideshow here for details about assessments.
What does each criterion (A, B, C, and D) mean? Each criteria represents a different category. You can see all the Criteria here. Typically Criterion A is a "Knowledge" category, Criterion B is a "Planning/Organizing/Analyzing" category, Criterion C tends to be a "Communicating" category and Criterion D tends to be a "Reflecting" category.
What do the 1-8 scores mean? What correlates to an A? In MYP, 7/8 is the highest score. It represents innovative, exceptional work and deep understanding of concepts and skills. A 5/6 score shows high quality work with generally a deep understanding. In general, a score of 3/4 is acceptable quality work. A score of 1/2 shows minimal work/understanding. Please ask your son or daughter to examine the rubrics on each summative assessment to reach a full understanding of the score.
If you have any questions about grades or assessments, please contact Rachel Domenic at rachel.domenic@lejardinacademy.org.
Four teachers from Le Jardin Academy: Sensei Rose Hutchison, Mr. Sean Connors, Mr. Dante Oliva, and Mr. Ittai Wong were recognized on local news channel KITV for their Na Mea Pono. They were nominated by a student's parent, who says they've all been helpful to their son during distanced learning. You can watch the whole segment HERE.
