January 18-Martin Luther King, Jr. Day- No School
Principal's Message by Alex Ramsvig, HS Principal
January 14, 2021
Aloha All,
This week I had a number of questions regarding the reason behind the absence of particular teachers or students; specifically, the concern was that people were away from school "because of COVID" and that perhaps information was being withheld. As I mentioned in my Instagram post, there are two important things to keep in mind:
Of course, if you ever have concerns you are welcome to contact me for additional information or support.
This first full week back has been active and exciting on campus even with our additional LJA Level 2 restrictions.
Have a wonderful weekend.

Aloha Le Jardin Families...
I wanted to pass along a great opportunity for parents and students to hear about study in the UK. There are a variety of sessions being offered so you will find something for everyone. You will notice some scheduled presentations don't necessarily work well with Hawaii time if you are not an early morning person. Monday is a holiday so you could make a day of it.
Please note, If students sign up for any presentations that fall within our school day, please have them notify me in advance by email with the following information: date, time and the title of the scheduled presentation. TH!NKUK will be the largest scale event organised specifically for North America, by 20 UK universities, bringing England, Wales and Northern Ireland higher education at your fingertips. The event will take place online between the 18th and 22nd of January 2021.
TH!NKUK week will cover everything from submitting your UCAS applications, right through to arriving in the UK.
We hope to welcome as many counsellors, students and parents to our general and subject specific sessions, and we will also be offering opportunities for participants to connect with universities in 1-2-1 sessions. Registration for the event is open here: https://gck.fm/vkavl , and we look forward to hosting you!

Thank Standardized Testing and What to Expect for the Class of 2022
Presumably, there will be varying testing requirements for the Class of 2022 depending on the institution. There will still be a large number of institutions who remain test optional and/or test blind. I feel best practice is to go forward expecting institutions will want/require students to provide a standardized test score in the admission process. This way we can cover all bases. If possible, it would be in a students best interest to take one ACT and one SAT before deciding which to do a second time. Unfortunately, standardized testing has always been the number one piece of stress in the entire college process for students. Providing them a small victory in choosing which one they like best (for a lack of a better word), does help. You can register and see upcoming test dates using the following links ACT and SAT
*There are a group of us (local high school college counselors) working with our local colleges to try and open more ACT testing locations for later this Spring and summer*
Thank you Scott

Don Dymond Scholarship
Welcoming and casual, the Kalapawai Market and its sister Cafe, located in the heart of Kailua town, embody the values and ethos of its founder, Mr. Don Dymond. In his memory, the Dymond family and many generous donors have established the Don Dymond Scholarship Fund at Le Jardin Academy. In honor of Don, his work ethic, and his commitment to mentor young people in the workplace, this $1,000 award is to acknowledge a LJA student's actual good work, both in school and in the workplace.
