January 28, 2021 Lower School Principal Message Aloha Parents,
Thank you to those who attended the Principal's Coffee last week! If you missed it, you can view the recording to learn more about LJA's assessment philosophy, report cards, and upcoming events. Our next Principal's Coffee is on February, 19.
Next week we will be celebrating our 100th day of School! On Wednesday, students in the early years will engage in activities to celebrate this day through math and hands-on learning.
Global Play Day is an event celebrated annually by schools across the world on February 3. Unfortunately, that conflicts with our 100th day of school, so we will be observing Global Play Day on Friday, February 5th. Global Play Day is a day devoted to experiential learning through unstructured play in which students are practicing social and emotional skills and reflecting upon their practice. This day is invaluable as we value the whole child, not just traditional academics. Students in Distance Learning are invited to join us on campus on February 5 to participate in the experiential learning that will be impossible to replicate through the screen.
Aloha, Leah
NOTICES VIRTUAL OPEN HOUSE If you missed the virtual PK-12 Open House on January 23, here is the recording.

PICTURES OF PRACTICE THIS WEEK As part of their How the World Works Unit, the kindergarteners visited the High School Science Labs and learned from our fabulous staff of scientists.
Exhibition research is in full swing in grade 5. Here, students make use of resources in the Media Center to find out more about their chosen topics.
Through their exploration unit, second graders are learning why people explore, how perspectives change through the act of exploring, and how exploration has impacted the world over time. Here, second graders are visiting Kahana Iki stream at Kawainui Marsh to engage in the act of exploration!
Fun things on campus this week include grade 4 students using colored blocks to learn about fractions (above) and Spanish with Professora Anderson (this row). Grade 1 students learned how to make "fish museums" from their classmate who is distance learning all the way from Japan! |
