Aloha Parents and Student Athletes, I'm excited to share some news from the ILH Championship swim meet held on March 13th at Punahou School. We won our first ever relay at an ILH championship meet! Congratulations to Ethan Ravelo, Thomas Caps, Paul Spary and Grant Tseu for being our first boys team to win the event. In addition to winning the 200 medley relay they also smashed the school record by 4 seconds. They almost won the 200 free relay while beating the school record by 3 seconds (Iolani touched us out by .44 of a second).
Ethan Ravelo had a great night setting 4 school records (100 back and 50 free, in addition to the 2 relays) and Thomas Caps also broke his own school record in the 100 breaststroke.
The girls came home with 3 individual wins... Alana Barthel won the 100 free and 100 back and Catie Fernadin won the 50 free. Alana broke her own ILH record by over a second. It was an amazing night.
TRAVEL POLICY UPDATE: For the school year 2020-21, in addition to current state travel requirements: https://www.oneoahu.org/travel, any persons identified on an ILH event roster/team personnel must wait 120 hours after travel from out of state to Oahu to be eligible to participate in an ILH event.
Livestreaming Update The corporate headquarters on the mainland approved the ILH's request of allowing schools to Livestream some of their home games. So I am happy to announce we will do that as much as possible, on our Athletics Instagram page @lejardinathletics.
Weight Room Update Due to improving COVID conditions the weight room can now allow 12 people in at a time. A sign up will still be posted outside of the weight room as usual. As always, our school sports teams have the priority when using the weight room after school on weekdays.
Track update The Track team is looking for one or two managers for their team. Please contact Coach T, renegadestrack@hawaii.rr.com for details.
Water Polo Update The ILH has not sanctioned a water polo sport this season, and no LJA sport experience has been approved. However, we want to recognize the seniors, many of whom have been a part of the program for 6 years. Please join me in appeciating the contributions to the water polo program from: Grant Tseu, Dillon Eastmond and Kawika Tumilowicz on the boys side and Fiona Bessinger, Skyler Webb, Melia Swirsky, Nya Hudspeth, Gabby Andersch, Anaise Brossier, Zofia Strugala and Ho'ohila Kawelo on the girls side. Thank you seniors! Windward Water Polo If you are interested in learning more about water polo, you may want to consider joining Windward Water Polo, a club team that uses the LJA pool. They practice on Saturdays from 8:45am-10:15am. Please contact Coach Chauncey, chauncey.hirosehulbert@gmail.com.
Cross Country Races Cross Country Championships were held at Mid Pacific Institute on March 13th. Our very own Elena Piette stole the show for the Bulldogs by coming in 5th place out of all of the ILH girls varsity runners. Way to go!
