Another group of seniors sign the Board of Awesomeness
Principal's Message by Alex Ramsvig, HS Principal April 8, 2021 Aloha All,
A number of emails have been sent out to parents of upperclassmen in the past few days about upcoming events (HS Graduation, Junior and Senior Banquet, and IB Exams), if you have any questions about those events please do reach out. Shortly, we should be able to share details about chorus and band concerts as well as end-of-year awards ceremonies. All of our events will continue to be a mix of online and modified in-person as we juggle regulations and capacity along with ensuring the best experience possible.
Also, please see in this newsletter information about our exciting I-Term offerings for this year. Christina Hoe and her team have worked incredibly hard already, and our teachers and community will really be coming together right in the last bit of this school year to make these experiences outstanding!
As always, please feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns.

"Be Loud and Proud" will be on April 23. We started this two years ago and unfortunately it was derailed last year, but it is back! Seniors will report to campus by 7:30am on Friday, April 23rd. By this point, most of them will have committed to their college or university and we want to celebrate this decision with our families and student body. Wear any college gear you have, bring any merchandise, make signs and/or grab your pennant from Mr. Liedtke's office...We will line the road from the wilderness entrance on down towards the middle school drop off allowing our families/students to revel in your accomplishments and honor the Class of 2021. We will also take a spin through the lower and middle school so everyone can get a glimpse and celebrate. Afterwards, we will come back to the HS campus and enjoy breakfast. Every one of you deserves this moment.

I-Term Catalog Released The High School Impact Term will take place May 24th-28th. Final exams will be completed during the week prior, May 17th-21st. We hope this will be a rewarding and highly impactful finish to what has been a challenging year for us all.
This year, all courses are on-island. We ask that seniors refrain from traveling off-island out of consideration for their graduation ceremony on May 29th. Instead, off-island travel should be planned for after graduation. 9th-11th grade students are welcome to propose independent or family based Impact Term courses off-island, but keep in mind that these must be approved before final plans are made.
We are lucky to have so many community partners step up to help facilitate several of our Impact Term courses. Check out the options on our website: www.ljaimpact.org.
The course catalog was released at 3:30p on Wednesday, April 7th, allowing students time to discuss with their friends and family. Registration opens on Friday, April 9th at 11:45am. Students will be accepted to courses based on the following criteria: Seniority, TimeStamp, Quality of Application. Please note that seniority will only come into play for applications received within the first 30 minutes of registration. We encourage students to prepare in advance if they have a course they'd really like to join. We also hope everyone remembers that all of the courses were carefully curated and will undoubtedly be impactful with the right attitude and mindset.
If you have any questions or suggestions related to I-Term, please contact me: christina.hoe@lejardinacademy.org

Wild Kids Stewardship Council at Nā Pōhaku
A team of 20 High School and Middle School students spent March 25th removing invasive water hyacinth in preparation for rebuilding the historic loko'ia (fish pond) at Nā Pōhaku. This project is in partnership with Ahahui Malama i Ka Lokahi. We are so lucky to be able to learn from Uncle Lehuakona Isaacs, the president of Ahahui, and contribute to the continued restoration and stewardship of Kawainui.

Technology Teen Tech Talk
Spring is a good time for "spring cleaning" and a "spring reset"… a time to reevaluate and reset screen-time limits. This need not be some gigantic reset; just one or two small tweaks may be in order. Research has shown that having some defined screen limits in a home is associated with positive outcomes with academics as well as with emotional and physical health. But sorting out time off of screens is an art, and it is all about working with our kids in doing so.
Read about the four key components to consider and discuss when creating (or modifying) your family's screen rules in this article by Dr. Delaney Ruston of Screenagers the Movie called Spring Reset. 4 Steps To Setting New Screen Limits.
