Senior Art Show
Principal's Message by Alex Ramsvig, HS Principal April 15, 2021 Aloha All,
In this weeks newsletter you will see some great photos from our Senior Art show which we were able to hold on campus along with parents of the DP Seniors involved. The photos give a sense of the event, but of course do not capture the depth of the art nor the achievement it represents for these students after two years of hard work. Congratulations to those seniors and Ms.Manso who helped guide such outstanding work.
This past week also saw our Senior volleyball nights: a big thank you to Linda Diersbock for spearheading the project along with Kalani Rodrigues who provided the huge LED screens for senior parents to watch the match. Another great example of our community coming together as we adapt events.
Students will continue to focus on their "ATL" (Approaches to Teaching and Learning)skills along with content as we move further into the semester.
Finally, students selected their I-Term options this past week. More information can be found here.
As always, please feel free to reach out with any questions.

College Pride, "Be Loud and Proud" day will be on April 23. We started this two years ago and unfortunately it was derailed last year, but it is back! Seniors will report to campus by 7:30am on Friday, April 23rd. By this point, most of them will have committed to their college or university and we want to celebrate this decision with our families and student body. Wear any college gear you have, bring any merchandise, make signs and/or grab your pennant from Mr. Liedtke's office...We will line the road from the wilderness entrance on down towards the middle school drop off allowing our families/students to revel in your accomplishments and honor the Class of 2021. We will also take a spin through the lower and middle school so everyone can get a glimpse and celebrate. Afterwards, we will come back to the HS campus and enjoy breakfast. Every one of you deserves this moment.

EARTH DAY IS EVERYDAY (but, it's also officially on the calendar for next Thursday, April 22nd)
As always, the High School will engage in a day of community stewardship on Earth Day. This is an integral part of our program, an experience that we feel is central to our mission and an essential component of our learning framework. Our annual Earth Day plan is developed by the Wild Kids Stewardship Council, building on relationships with community partners that students work hard to cultivate over the course of each school year. This year, the council members have finalized the following project options, each of which is led by a team of students and faculty members:
Students will be invited to select their preferred project on Friday, April 16th. On Monday, April 19th, a parent email will be sent, which will include details for each project, such as drop-off (for instance, students working at Hamakua will go directly to Hamakua in the morning rather than coming to campus first), a packing list, required waivers, and any other relevant information pertaining to the project.
Please note that April 22nd is a school day. Seniors will attend regular DP classes. Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors will be expected to engage in their stewardship project and in the afternoon shared learning and discussion around the film, 50 Minutes To Save The World.
Please email Joel Saito (joel.saito@lejardinacademy.org) and Christina Hoe (christina.hoe@lejardinacademy.org) with any questions.
After the release of this year's I-Term catalog, several parents shared that they wish they could take an I-Term course. Why not? This is something we are exploring for next year (or maybe even this summer): Parent Impact Term!

5th Annual Common Ground Summit! Since 2016, the LJA Wild Kids Stewardship Council has hosted an annual Common Ground Summit designed to bring together diverse, multi-age communities to connect over our most common ground: the planet. This year's plan is mostly asynchronous, with local action and learning planned for LJA students each day. The students have put in significant work to collaborate with other local schools and international partners in Thailand, Hong Kong, London and Nanjing, China. You can take a look at their plans in this packet: Navigating Healing of Self, Community, and Our Planet. Logo designed by senior, Fiona Bessinger Sophomores, Raymond Sevier and Hanalei Agamaite, collaborating with two students at Nanjing International School.

As we begin winding down the school year, now is a great time to start reflecting on the past school year. Looking at each criteria on your most recent progress report, how can you use the AtL Skills to increase your learning and ultimately your grade? Don't know what the specific AtL skills are? Check out this document that has all of the strands for reflection. There are a lot, so just focus on a few!
around campus.... Senior, Chris Easter, visited the 10th grade science classes today to demonstrate the chemical reaction involved in his IA. He taught the class about the chemistry and gave them helpful hints about how to succeed in the DP program.
With vaccinations ramping up and summer on the way, it feels like the end of the pandemic is beginning to enter our sights. But for kids who've spent the past year weathering so much uncertainty and disappointment, there are still challenges. This week we take a look at how parents can help kids manage their feelings and expectations during this complicated time. And we offer tips from childmind.org for supporting children who are struggling, both now and after the pandemic ends.
