JK Moving Up Ceremony This year, amidst our many challenges, we've always strived to provide exceptional experiences. Our Junior Kindergarten Moving Up Ceremony will be no different, as this year we will be hosting a hybrid Virtual and Face-to-Face event on campus!
Join us tomorrow, Friday, May 28th at 12:00pm in the Junior School parking lot where each JK family will have a parking stall from which to view the ceremony. As parents enjoy the show from the comfort of their cars, family and friends around the world can watch the celebration - live streamed via this link on YouTube.
Following the ceremony, students will parade through the parking lot to "Pomp and Circumstance" where parents will be encouraged to cheer, take pictures, and videos. After the processional, students will be permitted to visit with their families at their stalls for pictures and lei. Families are welcome to take home their child at this time, though not required. For students remaining at school, the day will continue as normal, including extended day.
We recognize that, due to work or other obligations, some families may not be able to attend the ceremony. In those instances, we have arranged to have additional teachers on hand to ensure that those children feel celebrated as well. Parents that cannot attend in person will have the opportunity to send in a lei which will be presented to your child by their teacher after the processional. Parents, please remember to RSVP here for the event.
We look forward to celebrating with you tomorrow! ![]()
Pop Up Art Show ![]() ![]() Last Friday, parents and family were privileged to view our Junior School's exclusive exhibition of extraordinary masterpieces by our talented Junior School keiki. Displayed at the pop-up show were pieces created by our little artists, "based on our year-long study of color, lines, shape, texture and perspective."
According to the artists, "A few of our favorite pieces are from our study of famous artists including 'Starry Night' by Van Gogh, Jackson Pollock splatter painting, 'Japanese Bridge' by Monet, 'Sunflowers' by Van Gogh, Mondrian line animals, Kandinsky's 'Concentric Circles' and 'Head of Man' by Paul Klee. We also created pieces based on Eric Carle books, organic shapes in nature, printmaking, relief texture, and watercolor resist techniques."
Mahalo, Mrs. Gayton, for the unique and beautiful Pop Up Art Show and for guiding our keiki to explore and create such inspirational artwork! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Junior School Staff Highlight Dedicated, imaginative, playful, passionate, and bright. Creative, caring, super fun, and owns a closet full of costumes for every occasion… we can only be talking about the one, the only, the most amazing PK teacher, Mrs. Rochelle Fairbairn!
For the past 30 years, Rochelle, her husband, Chris, and their 3 children - Ka'imi, Kona, and Kiara - have called Kailua home. Living in a beach town, the children grew up participating in a variety of ocean activities and sports. They all love diving, fishing and boating (building). Back on land, they love playing soccer, football, volleyball, and golf. Being avid sports fans, their love of the game goes above and beyond. Mrs. Fairbairn says, "I love to bake, cook and grill, and when we watch {sports} games, we plan our theme menus."
Even when not sports related, Mrs. Fairbairn enjoys eating all different types of cuisines and will try new recipes. Her family loves dining at Nalu's Cafe, Champa Thai, and 22 (a secret sushi spot, here in Kailua! shhhh!). Her love of dining and adventure are the inspiration behind her dream vacation. "I would like to take a trip to explore New Zealand and enjoy the breathtaking scenery. I would like to learn about the Maori Culture, visit where the 'Lord of the Rings' was filmed, and of course, eat and enjoy the fabulous seafood and wine. Another place on my bucket list is to go to Singapore! Did you know that Singapore's food courts have earned Michelin Stars? Singapore's food, bars, scenery and architecture are what I would like to experience some day!" Back at home, Mrs. Fairbairn is just as creative and adventurous. "What do I like to do on weekends? Eat! Garden! Drums! Read! Sports! Not necessarily in that order," she says. Currently, Mrs. Fairbairn's family has been busy shopping for plants to grow in their yard this summer. Perhaps they can create a little oasis for Rochelle to sit and read the scary mystery novels she loves so much! It would definitely be a little quieter than her taking up taiko drum classes again - which is on her agenda, and she jokes, "much to the chagrin of my children and husband, who I know are excited to come to all my performances and sit in the front row!"
For the past 19 years, Le Jardin Academy has been blessed to have Mrs. Fairbairn as part of our 'ohana. Her energy and passion for teaching is unparalleled. You can feel the love Mrs. Fairbairn has for her work through her message, "Our youngest learners here at LJA inspire me. The amount of growth from the first day of school until the last day of PK is incredible. Every day is different! I get to see how these 3 year olds think and watch when they have that 'a-ha' moment. The smiles that I see when their brain synapses are firing on all cylinders - it is priceless. It is a process, but it is worth the effort. I enjoy our LJA community and have made life-long connections with colleagues and families. And where else would I wear all the costumes that I have? Plus, as a teacher I have some of the best 'you can't make this stuff up' stories!" We can't make it up either, Mrs. Fairbairn! We love you and are so grateful for all you give to our LJA 'Ohana!
