Aloha All,
Our first full week of school has been a great success and I would like to thank all of our teachers, families, and students for working together to make this happen!
I am excited to announce a number of changes to our 2021-2022 HS Impact programs (specific programmatic details will continue to be shared as the year progresses). These changes have been made based on feedback from students, parents, faculty, and of course, our desire to constantly enhance our offerings. Important changes for this year:
Each of these programmatic changes/improvements has been designed to better support our students individually as well to build culture and community in the High School.

Welcome to New High School Faculty R. Kevin Garcia Doyle comes to LJA from Mid-Pac where he spent 25 years as the director of the school of the arts and as an acting teacher. He is one of the co-founders of the Hawaii Shakespeare Festival, an active member of the Hawaii improvisational comedy scene and the recipient of the Hawaii State Theatre Council's Pierre Bowman Lifetime Achievement Award for his contributions to the Hawaii theatre community. He is delighted to be teaching theater at Le Jardin Academy.
New to MYP (or those wanting to join for a refresher!) Information Session Are you new to the IB Middle Years Program (Grades 6-10)? Wondering how assessments work or how learning is different from a regular school program? Come join the MYP Coordinator, Rachel Domenic for a New to MYP info session in the evening on Wednesday, September 1 at 7pm with a mini session for parents on Google Classroom and Managebac afterwards. Parents and students are welcome to join. Mark your calendars for Wednesday, September 1 at 7pm and join us on Zoom!
Join us for the No Stress, No Prep Read Aloud Book Club! All middle school and high school students and families are welcome to join. What do we do? We pick a book and read it aloud one night a week until it is finished. Perfect way to end an evening with a great story from the comfort of your home. Interested in joining us? Fill out this quick survey to help us with our first book pick and choose the night of the week. We hope to start the first week of September with a great graphic novel.
High School Drop Off STUDENT DROP-OFF AND PICKUP
High School students should be dropped off and picked up at the designated area for the HS. In order to assist with traffic flow, please avoid stopping in the main driveway loop. Drivers should not exit their vehicle and please do not stop along the student locker areas until you have pulled all the way forward to the crosswalk just before the large mural (or until the car in front of you stops). Drivers are also asked not to drive through the gravel student parking lot during the drop-off or pick-up process. This creates a very unsafe situation for our student drivers parking and leaving their assigned stalls.
Under no circumstance should students be dropped off or picked up on the road leading down the hill. For safety reasons, students are not permitted to walk off campus, walk, or linger on Kapaa Quarry Road fronting the school.
While it is a mundane topic, student drop-off and pickup directly impacts student safety. Eli Omori is usually directing traffic in the morning and afternoon to ensure wait times are as short as possible. I am asking parents to remain patient and aware of students during these busy times.
High School Communications

HS Student Government Association Last week our HS students were sent an email to apply for HS Student Government Association (SGA). There are four elected Officer positions: President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer of the HS SGA, and they will be voted on by the entire High School. The student that receives the most votes for the specific position that they are campaigning for will fill that HS SGA position. Additionally, each grade level will have two elected Representatives. These Representatives will make up the parliamentary body that shares the responsibility of student governance. The two students from each grade that receive the most votes will become the Representative members of the HS SGA. The student body will vote for their own grade level Representatives only. If an HS student is interested in applying they will need to complete the application and other requirements that were sent via email by Friday, Aug 20 before 3:30p to Mrs. Omori.
Le Jardin Academy's National Honor Society and National Junior Honor Society What is the National Honor Society (NHS) and National Junior Honor Society (NJHS)?
LJA Chapter Requirements:
Students interested in either applying for the LJA Chapter of NHS/NJHS or maintaining their membership this year should check their email for the invite soon.

Every year parents and friends of the senior class of Le Jardin Academy plan and execute Project Graduation immediately following the commencement services. Project Graduation was started over 30 years ago to provide a safe, drug and alcohol free celebration for the kids on their special night. All expenses are paid through fundraising events organized by the class. This year's crew is off to a great start and already has their first fundraiser on the books.

We have upgraded to a LJA Risk Response Level 2.

Lunch orders will be taken beginning August 4th. The information will be accessible from the spirit store.
