Middle School Principal Message
Happy Almost Fall Break Everyone!
I would like to give a special "shout out" to the 6th and 7th grade students and their teachers for helping us with our first screening COVID testing yesterday. The whole process was very successful and it was completed quite quickly thanks to the cooperation and great behavior demonstrated. The day culminated in a popsicle-social for all the MS students as our thanks to them for helping us take action to keep our community safe.
As we look forward to a much deserved fall break, please do take a few minutes to review the other very important information in this last newsletter for the first quarter. I hope you all have a very safe and restful holiday; we look forward to an exciting second quarter of school.
Thank you, Julie

Progress Reports Coming Rachel Domenic, MYP Coordinator & MS Academic Dean
Mark your calendars for October 22! We will release progress reports on this date. As teachers finalize grades, it is essential for students to remember to double check any work they turn in against the rubrics. See if you can accurately match your score to that of the teacher. Once your work is returned, encourage your son or daughter to read the feedback carefully and reflect on how the score can be improved. If there are any discrepancies, confusion, or questions with your grades, check with your teacher or email Rachel Domenic, rachel.domenic@lejardinacademy.org.
MYP2 Science 7th grade science students head outside for their learning to investigate and identify the characteristics of life found in the forest.

Virtual Parent Conference Options Parents now have an opportunity to schedule time with teachers. This year's conference time will run from October 1-29. Please do not feel obligated to sign up for conferences, especially with every teacher. However, you might find it necessary to check in as we approach the end of the semester.
In the instance you do want to schedule a 10-20 minute conference with a specific teacher, please click here. Teachers have already marked their availability during prep periods as well as before and after school. Once you have scheduled your time, teachers will receive an email with the requested date and time. Teachers will then share their Zoom link with you. If you do not see a time that works for you, please reach out and teachers would be happy to set up an alternative time. Lunch Orders Lunch orders are available from the spirit store. All questions regarding the lunch program should be directed to Kyle Nakayama at kyle.nakayama@lejardinacademy.org. Support Project Grad - Holiday Greenery Le Jardin Project Grad has partnered with Habilitat to provide island families with the freshest holiday greenery while raising funds for their end-of-year Senior event. Please click here to learn more about the fundraiser and place an order. Orders due online by 10/23/21.
LJA Wellness Message LJA Counseling Team
The World Health Organization recognizes World Mental Health Day on 10 October every year. This year's theme set by the World Federation for Mental Health is 'Mental Health in an Unequal World'. The COVID-19 pandemic has had a major impact on people's mental health. Some groups, including health and other frontline workers, teachers, students, people living alone, and those with pre-existing mental health conditions, have been particularly affected.
Yet there is cause for optimism. During the World Health Assembly in May 2021, governments from around the world recognized the need to scale up quality mental health services at all levels. And some countries have found new ways of providing mental health care to their populations.
During this year's World Mental Health Day campaign, the World Health Organization will showcase the efforts made in some of these countries and encourage you to highlight positive stories as part of your own activities, as an inspiration to others.
