HEAD OF SCHOOL WELCOME
Aloha LJA 'ohana! For those returning families, thank you for making the past year so memorable! We look forward to reconnecting and sharing stories of joyful summer adventures. For those new to LJA, mahalo for choosing us. We look forward to getting to know you and your children as they discover and pursue their unique education pathways. Extraordinary learning and excellence in teaching are two of the hallmarks of LJA. We are proud to share that following their own pathways, each of our Class of 2022 graduates were admitted to the colleges of their choosing--and noteworthy ones at that! Moreover, we learned during the summer that the Class of 2022 achieved yet another distinction: the highest IB Diploma Programme pass rate (92%) in the school's history! This achievement is all the more remarkable when one considers that all LJA juniors and seniors--not just the select few--are required to participate in the rigorous Diploma Programme. We are here to help each and every student realize their goals and dreams, and our Division Heads and their respective teams have been working throughout the summer to do just that. In the coming year, our focus will be on: - Restoring Community - 'Ohana has been a hallmark of LJA since its inception, but with the separation induced by COVID, we realize that many of our students, families and staff have not yet had the opportunity to connect in person. This year, we are committed to revitalizing our relationships and points of connection with all.
- Operationalizing Social-emotional Learning and Learning Support - We've seen, firsthand, the impact that social isolation has had on our young people as well as adults, and we are in the midst of a multi-year process to strengthen our support structures and to focus attention to the wellbeing of all in our community.
- Strengthening Programmatic Excellence - With a commitment to excellence and individual pathways enshrined in our values, we now seek to continue to build out exemplary curricular and co-curricular programs (including experiential and athletic programs).
- Planning for the Future - Our successes today are the product of intentional work that was laid out in our 2017 Strategic Plan. Having engaged you in a full year of self-study, and with our previous strategic plan sunsetting, we will be engaging our stakeholders in reimagining our future state.
As we begin another exciting year together, I look forward to getting to know each of you and your children. May the coming year bring enormous growth, much happiness and the best of success to you and yours. Me ke aloha, Earl Kim |
