A MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF PRIMARY DIVISION

Aloha Parents,

What a week! With field trips, an Enchanted Forest, a Book Fair, the filming of a movie near campus, and Parent Conferences, this week turned out to be quite busy! Thank you for your support, partnership, patience, and understanding through it all.

We are equally excited about the events we have in store next week! We welcome parents to celebrate HALLOWEEN with us this Monday, October 31. In order to make this event possible, please carpool (1 car per family). Parking will be limited. Students and parents are invited to join the teachers in this year's costume theme: "Enchanted Forest/Enchanted Garden." We have 3 separate parades this year, starting with the PK/JK parade at the Preschool Campus, followed by the K-2 and 3-5 parades at the Main Campus. *Preschool parents please try to drop your child off before 8:00 a.m. even if you aren't staying for the parade as we will be closing the lot at 8:10 a.m.

PK/JK: 8:15-8:50 a.m. (Parents will park in our Preschool lot. Parking lot closes at 8:10 a.m. OVERFLOW parking for parents located next door at Kailua Baptist Church)
K-2: 9:20-9:45 a.m. (Parking for K-2 parade opens at 9:00 a.m.)
3-5: 10:15-10:45 a.m. (Parking for 3-5 parade opens at 10:00 a.m.)

MAIN CAMPUS HALLOWEEN PARADE RESERVED PARENT PARKING

Parents, please park in the areas marked with red on the map. Thank you for your parking lot patience during the transition between parades.

OVERFLOW parking starts along the curb from the mauka edge of the C-playground then heading down toward the exit. Parking on the hillside is ok as well. Please leave a lane for emergency vehicles.

Parents may view the parade from the sidewalk area circling the loop.

NOVEMBER READING CHALLENGE

As a way to promote reading and the book fair, a November Reading Challenge went home in your child's Friday Folder. The class that returns the most completed sheets by November 30 will earn a pizza party in December. A completed sheet means 25-30 boxes colored in accompanied by a parent signature.

OUR FESTIVE CAMPUSES

A huge thank you to our PFA volunteers on the Preschool and Main Campus for making LJA so festive! We appreciate all your hard work!

PARENTS' TURN TO LEARN

Thank you to our presenters and guests at this year's Parents' Turn to Learn. Parents had the opportunity to connect with other LJA families, learn about our programs, and how to better support their children through the continuum of learning here at LJA.

ENCHANTED FOREST

The Freshman and Senior classes hosted this year's Enchanted Forest for our K-5 students. Full of music, festive games, and fun, this year's Enchanted Forest was surely a hit!

ATTENDANCE

Kindergarten through Grade 12 attendance should be reported using the LJA Attendance Form. Through this form families report absences, late arrivals, early pick-ups, or multiple day absences. After 8:00 a.m., please contact lisa.ventura@lejardinacademy.org (K-5) or Kimberly.Miyahana@lejardinacademy.org (PK-JK) with any notifications of late arrivals or early dismissal. EXTENDED ABSENCE REQUEST PROCEDURES

It is the responsibility of each family to request extended absence approval in a timely manner from the administration prior to any absence not due to illness or family emergency. Parents must contact the Dean of Academics, rob.marsden@lejardinacademy.org for prior approval. (From the LJA 2022-2023 Code of Conduct in the Parent Portal).

RETURN TO SCHOOL AFTER SICKNESS

Students may be required to stay home for 24 hours fever-free without medication. After 72 hours of being home due to illness, the student is required to bring a doctor's note for clearance back on campus.
