A MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF SECONDARY DIVISION Aloha All, I hope everyone had a healthy, happy, and relaxing Thanksgiving break! Thank you to everyone who came out to our "Evening Edition" parent coffee on Tuesday night. We had a lively discussion about "post-secondary" life for our students. In the last few weeks before winter break, we will see a flurry of activity in all academic classes. We are also getting ready for our I-Term courses, which will see our students spreading out across the island, state, country, and world! Please help support your child in finding a healthy balance between work and wellness as the pressures to finish final assignments increase. Reach out to teachers if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you! Alex | A MESSAGE FROM THE DEAN OF ACADEMICS 9-12 Aloha all, It is hard to believe that the first semester is nearly over. With that being said, I want to explain the final exam schedule for the week of December 12-16. This exam schedule will be emailed to all students on Friday, December 2. For the majority of students, an exam is scheduled in every class. Please ask your student(s) to share and discuss the schedule with you. Each exam block is 2 hours and follows the Monday/Tuesday daily schedule. Students are required to be in the exam room for the entire exam block. If a class is not on the schedule, students do NOT have an exam. If your student is uncertain, they should check with the teacher(s). Students are not required to be on campus unless for a scheduled exam. However, if transportation is an issue, students are welcome to study in the library or outdoor area. Finally, we want to remind families that the first semester does not end until December 16. We expect all students to sit their exams with their peers. In this way, we are better able to uphold the academic integrity of exams. Additionally, students are more likely to receive academic support during exam week (teachers will be available each day from 1:00-3:00 p.m.) Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you, Lindsey |
A MESSAGE FROM THE COLLEGE COUNSELOR The college landscape is constantly in transition and there has been no bigger topic than standardized testing. Personally, I am fascinated with this topic and how it has played into and "out" of the college process over the years. From my experience, standardized testing has been the biggest stressor in the college process for high school students and families. I read a recent article from New York Magazine by Jeffrey Selingo discussing MIT's decision to bring back standardized testing in their admission process. Whether or not you believe standardized testing has a role in the admissions process in general, the article is worth the read. Enjoy! Scott | |
