Level 3 Plans

Aloha LJA Families,

While we monitor current pandemic conditions closely, LJA continues to operate at Response Level 2 and will continue to do so through the first days of school--welcoming our face-to-face students to campus as previously planned on August 12.

Current salient indicators:

However, based on current data and projections, and more importantly that which is unknown due to testing and contact tracing challenges, the LJA Medical Hui advises that escalating conditions indicate that a shift into Reponse Level 3 will be necessary by the end of next week. As such, all students will shift into distance learning effective August 19th, one week after the start of school. We would like to provide you with an update to our Return to School plans, which now include a timeline for transition to Level 3 and distance learning for all students.  We encourage families to use this time to make necessary preparations for childcare or distance learning support at home (supervision, schedules, work spaces) for your children as necessary. Our plan is:

We intend to provide face-to-face instruction whenever and wherever we can safely do so for our students, staff and community. At this moment, however, we believe it is in our collective best interest to transition into distance learning no later than Wednesday, August 19th and to remain there through at least September 2nd or until conditions permit us to pivot back into face-to-face learning, our preferred mode of instruction. We have planned very carefully and are well-prepared for this shift.

FIRST RESPONDER CHILDCARE OPTION
We are assessing the feasibility of providing childcare for qualified LJA First Responder families (PK-5) while we are at Reponse Level 3. If you and/or your spouse are both employed full-time and one or both of you are a First Responder and are interested in childcare through LJA, please fill out our First Responders’ Care Program Interest Form to let us know of your need. Space will be limited and awarded to qualified families on a first-come, first-served basis. We will follow up with additional information soon.

NEXT STEPS
You will receive more information from your division principals shortly to help you navigate this transition. We will also be providing families with a weekly update and a two-week forecast for our LJA Reponse Level to keep you informed and help you plan (LJA Weekly).

Now is our time to shine and to put into action all that we value as a community. Please take care of your families and yourselves, mālama one another and our community’s collective need, and we will be able to come back together soon.

Thank you for your understanding.

A hui hou,
Earl Kim
