My name is Kilia Hinrichs and I am privileged to be helping out this year with our hard-working and organized PFA, as your President. My husband, Tyler, and I feel blessed to have our son, Jaxon, attending LJA for a second year. In just one year of the fifth grade, we saw him mature into a more confident and dynamic version of himself due to his devoted and clever teachers and to healthy friendships with other LJA students.
Like many of you, Tyler and I are excited for this school year to unfold because we see how the educators at Le Jardin Academy take pride in igniting passion and curiosity within each of our keiki, in age-appropriate and engaging ways. Though we are busy with work, family, and play, Tyler and I realize it is our kuleana (our responsibility) to model what it looks like to care for our community so that Jaxon sees some of the magic he is learning in school taking place at home. This why I've chosen to work with the PFA, and I am hopeful you will find a desire to get involved as well.
On behalf of the PFA, we invite you and your Ohana to play an active role, big or small, in our thriving LJA community. Without you and your unique strengths, we are less well-rounded!
If you are interested, we have general PFA Meetings coming up this school year. Those dates are posted on our website. We also have many other fun upcoming events and activities to look forward to throughout the year.
I think we all agree that many hands make light work, so please mark your calendars. Being a part of something bigger than ourselves always feels good and leads to wonderful relationships and experiences. I look forward to crossing paths with many of you.
Mahalo for your kokua, Kilia Hinrichs 2019-2020 PFA President
The Admissions Office and the PFA jointly sponsor Bienvenue au Jardin (French for "Welcome to our Garden"), a program to welcome new LJA families into our ‘ohana. The purpose of this event is to give new families a sense of welcome into our school community. We pair a current family (the "Ambassador Family") with a new family. Ambassador Families are a liaison during the school year, answering questions and providing support during the new families' transitions to our school.
Ambassador Family Tasks
As part of this program,we ask current LJA families to let us know if they want to participate. Ambassador Families make a welcome phone call and/or email to an incoming family, giving them a friendly transition to their child’s new school. We match families as closely as possible by age and gender of students, making this a great opportunity to also make new friends. As an Ambassador Family, you will receive an email with your new family's contact information in mid to late July, along with some guidance on how to answer questions your new family may have. You will also receive an invitation to the festive Bienvenue au Jardin Welcome event, which is usually scheduled for early August in the Administration Building Courtyard on the main campus (LS/MS/HS), and at the Junior School Campus (JS families). Attending these parties is not required of an Ambassador Family, but they are a fun way to meet your new family in person.
It takes just a little bit of your time, is very rewarding, and makes a HUGE difference to those who are new to our LJA ‘ohana. If you are interested in volunteering as an Ambassador Family, please complete the
The Welcome Brunch is held at the beginning of the school year on Lower and Middle School "Meet The Teacher Day" in August. It is a great way for all parents in Junior School through High School, old and new, to grab a bite to eat and catch up with each other! PFA representatives are present to answer questions on volunteer opportunities.
The LJA Family Fun Run is held annually on a Sunday in February, rain or shine! The event is FREE, but registration is mandatory. The course circles the Main Campus, beginning and ending on the soccer field. This event takes many volunteers to make it a success, and any help you can offer is appreciated!
Coffee/Pupus with the Principals are casual gatherings where all principals discuss topics of interest to parents. Coffees are generally held at either 8:15 a.m. or 3:30 p.m. in various school locations, and there is usually one evening event per year.
Coffee dates and locations are listed on the school calendars.
A PFA team provides special treats for our LJA Faculty/Staff about once a month. This team also puts on the annual Teacher Appreciation luncheon in May and surprises our faculty with gifts during Teacher Appreciation Week.
Available jobs may include: organization of volunteers, making treats, helping with the annual luncheon, or helping with Teacher Appreciation Week.
