Impact of Giving
Students are growing into leaders that will positively impact our world!
Gianna Sbarbaro '19 came to LJA in 2008 and graduates this June. Time and again, she shows extraordinary leadership in academics, athletics, and throughout the community. Her Grade 10 personal project focused on restoration activities at Kanewai Spring to raise awareness for the protection and preservation of the important cultural site. This year, she directed the Children’s and Youth Day Fun Run, coordinating the event with the City for over 130 keiki runners. She also placed 3rd at the 2018 State Cross Country Championship and was named 2018 ILH Runner of the Year!
Alumni are pursuing their passions!
Maddie Matthews ’16 is a junior at George Fox University and will graduate in 2020. Her major is in Organizational Communication and Cinematic Art, a path which started in LJA's theater program in Grade 10. There she dabbled in acting, playwriting, costume design, and production, and claims Robert St. John as her "most influential teacher at LJA - although there were many! His approach developed my creativity, discipline, and enthusiasm toward learning, and my confidence grew!” Maddie hopes to continue her education beyond George Fox and apply her skills to playwriting, screenwriting, and music
Faculty and staff are creating enriching classroom communities!
Grade 2 teacher Melissa Everest is in her seventh year at Le Jardin Academy. Every morning her students greet each other and share something personally important. Through this seemingly simple activity, she creates a classroom community that cultivates strong connections and mutual respect, encourages teamwork, and fosters a growth mindset. "The moments that inspire me as a teacher are when students have an ‘aha!’ moment - when their hard work pays off and they say ‘oh yeah, I’ve got this!".
